New "BMW" to the fleet

So the Cayenne met it's unfortunate demise on the 24th of December and after about a month of trodding through frankly poverty or trashy 957's i decided nha lets look at W163 ML55'r or do something nice and stupid and go for a RR with a nice V8.

There was a nice final facelift 3.6L with the digital dash warra warra up at WBC in late Jan, but there was some issues, mostly related to the performance. It just felt for 700nm and 200kw a bit lazy. It has proper maintenance records behind it but before i could investiage it got sold.

Que at that stage a white one at Midstream that looked semi decent till i went to go see it. It smelled like Industria in the witer on the inside, lots and lots of little dings, a dog that ate the interior, but a one owner with verifyable service history and the performance i expected. But the price wasn't quite where i wanted it to be given some of the missed things on the "report" (read air suspenion has imminent failure, the very expensive conti's are nicked, A/C was a bit crap). Waited and waited and it came down from 245k to 239k, to 230k, to 221k, to 215k to where i finally was happy to buy it.

It is disgusting and smells disgusting, but odd. The rear entertainment headphones are still in their original baggies and the duracel batteries still in their little baggies. It's very odd, the owner lived not 5km from me, but it's giving strong deceased estate vibes. It did 3000km between 2024 and now, and half of that was driving it back from the dealer in capetown that has been servicing it the past 7 years. This was someones take the dogs to the park car.

It did a grand total from Midstream to Linden to Ellispark to Linden and then the front struts as expected kakked themselves. Getting new ones fitted today at a princely sum of 20k. And then i hope it behaves for 6 months before we have another little "fail to proceed"

Plans on it.

1. Make it less disguting on the inside
2. Detail the outside but don't fix a thing
3. Service the 6HP
4. Cut the mufflers and run it a bit more shall we say V8'ier.

Ahhhh yes, a L322  I was watching the price come down on this, you should be able to find replacement interior bits fairly easily from the breakers. I love the white on white spec!

Looks like quite a good buy, congratulations, hopefully the air suspension is your only niggle

I had a few friends mention to me "ah i was looking at that one" so my waiting game was starting to make me very worried, so my partner took my phone saturday morning and just hit the buy button.

Your partner sounds awesome! As a bonus, you now have someone to blame when/if things go wrong :ROFLMAO:

By the way, dont cut the muffler...not very stately that

But V8 noises, one must have V8 noises.

A little bit of digging and turns out my car was shock horror owned by a politician, explaining why a Joburg car was regularly serviced in Capetown.

This is the way

Congrats! Wishing you many happy miles with minimal wallet impact.

Even me. I have 6 Landy indies between work and home, reached out to a few for doing a proper service (fluids wise) for all the running gear, 20K isn't to bad given its diffs, transfercase, diffs, gearbox etc.

EGR delete is a must on these it would seem so that is first to be done.

So little updates

Been running my O3 generator in it since Friday, smell is starting to go away, but damn, i think someones brains got blown out in it and this was a DNA dump car. Found the milldew wasn't milldew but actually frikking beach that stained the carpets (see what i mean about DNA evidence)

Replaced all the interior lights to LED bulbs, installed some ghastly but oh so lovely projector puddle lights.

Chucked in some LM Ceratec into it, will do about 5000km before we do the oil dump and fluid service.

My partner has decided the Mini and the L322 is not mine. Guess the Scott is coming though.

And it kinda concludes my SUV "what shall i be buying" thing.

4 years ago i got a Final Edition ML270CDI it was aweome being able to load a friends infant into the boot with the pram fully erected and proving why a ML beats the X5 hands down as a family car, that was replaced with a X3 35i that was fast but a bit poverty and cramped, that was replaced with the Cayenne that was frankly awesome but 100k for a unfucked Cayenne is not a feat to be reapted frequently and we did that so it was time to move on. My partner was deep into the LC200 thing, but has now basically said, nhaa this is actually perfect, 200K for a RR TDV8 with 100000km on it vs 500k for a LC200 with 400 000km on it. So we decided the actual replacement for this is either going to be a 4.4TDV8 L322/Ineos or a VW Cali should i face a involuntary sale.

Odd how somehow as a Merc boy i end up with a 3 BM's in my garage even if 2 of them have a different badge.
