So due to unforeseen circumstances, the 440i is no more. Long story short. A drunk dude decided to drive into me. Insurance wrote the car off. My lesson, make the best use of my cars as possible, it’s pointless doing your best to keep it pristine, everyday you drive, you at the mercy of other selfish and careless road users.

I was in two minds about getting another car, since I had the starlet. That car was bought for a purpose so if I didn’t get another car it would cause some issues. The other option was to get my X3 back from my place in Durbs, but once again, that would inconvenience me.

I started looking around for a replacement. I knew it would not be easy to replace the 440 so I didn’t even try. Bare in mind I still have the Porche. I looked at a few brands, if not all, eventually something caught attention. It was pure luck actually. I was in Durban and decided to stop at SMG in Umhlanga to do window shopping. As the salesman’s took me through some of the online stock I spotted something that gave me that feeling, where you know it’s the one. Long story short, called my buddy at Montana BMW, secure the car with a deposit and he arranged everything. Waited about a month by the time everything got sorted out since the car only landed in SA on the day I stopped at SMG. Besides the fact that I was on holiday in Durbs for 3 weeks

Anyway…. Here it is

2024 Mini Cooper S 5 Door
British Racing Green IV
Cross Punch Carbon Black leather
18 Pulse Spoke wheels (Comes on the Resolute Edition)
Eagle F1 tyres
Steptronic Sports Transmission with DCT and paddle shifts

It’s really packed with features, to mention a few

I’ve got the Signature which includes:
Piano black exterior
Panaromic roof
Anthracite Headliner
Ambient exterior Light
Extended Light package
Harmon Kardon sound

It also has …
Apple car play
LED lights with LED daytime lights
Comfort access
Exterior mirror package
Mirror caps and roof in gloss black
Rear view camera
MINI heads-up display
Connected drive and all the available services
All badges blacked out
Folding and heated mirrors
Anti dazzle

Don’t know if I missed anything, that’s what I can recall for now.

On to the best part, the pics

First impressions…

My word does this thing feel great. I haven’t really driven it hard, have to wait to get to 1000 km

It’s extremely responsive, feels solid, sounds damn good. Gearshifts are rapid. The ride is stiff but not uncomfortable. 4 of us fit in well, it’s comfortable enough. Boot space is ok for some shopping and maybe a small suitcase
I was selfish though, this was purely for me, I wanted to re-live the time I had my Corsa OPC, this ticks all the boxes and then some. I’m hooked now, I can see another Mini or few in the future. The interior is well built, disco lights which I still need to figure out. I have an optional storage space add on, so it’s got place for phone and some stuff. Buttons make you feel like you are in a fighter jet. The roof isn’t that low so it feels spacious. The HK sound is Epic, better than in the 440 and my M135i before that.

Lastly, had its first wash with this

Most Mini owners in SA seem to have it as the 'our' car rather than the 'her' car.

Mini's have always been guys car and cars for tinkering. They have that Honda-esque fun to drive DNA built into them, even if it is the base models.

If you go to any track-focused event you are likely to see at least a handful of them... usually going up against and beating much 'manlier' cars :ROFLMAO: . My mate's GP2 was a proper giant killer... and even two TTRSes later he was still longing for his GP2.

Anyway @r0ckf1re very sorry to hear about the 440i. I am convinced the increased use of hard drugs also has an impact here (certainly around Midrand) based on Friday and Saturday night behaviour on the roads. It is beyond drunk driving or 'youngsters in too fast of a car' levels of stupidity. But again, massive congrats on the car. Wishing you many safe miles.

When did it become ok to own a Mini? Isnt the target market directed at females? Just asking..
When I saw this comment I thought the OP and the Gent know each other on a personal level 🙆🏽‍♂️🤯.. Little did I know they live amongst us..

Congrats on the pocket rocket, love the colour.. 🎊
