Treated the 550 to a wash today.

And drove around looking for some bits and pieces for the 540. Which is a fruitless errand at the best of times. Need to sort out an auxiliary fan issue which keeps blowing Fuse 25, and I need a new fan shroud, so going to see the dealers in the morning.

At least it's pretty.

Decided to take a drive this morning and blow out some cobwebs (mostly mine). I usually end up reaching for the E34's keys when the weather is nice, because it's just that sort of car. Drove up the Helshoogte Pass to French Corner (#BringBackTheLand), pottered around there for a bit, then came back down:

and snapped a few pics on the way. The E34 suits this kind of thing - it's got lovely seats, the ride is cosseting, and the 10-speaker Becker does a respectable job of rendering Tame Impala, for something from the days when FW De Klerk was the president and not a foundation that says silly things.

Looking at this one, I need to give the bumper a tweak to line it up properly - it's been out of alignment since I pulled it to look at the Aux fan.

I'm taking it in for a new headlining this week, and I've ordered a new radiator shroud, because the the one on the car is crumbling into nothingness, as they do. The steering box is leaking from somewhere (as they do), and I think the PCV needs doing (again). But other than those annoyances, it's great.

Did a 4000+km round trip from Stellenbosch via Bloemfontein and Mafikeng, up to the Victoria Falls. Highlights included dodging elephants and rampant donkeys and generally showing the GP-registered he-men in their Amaroks and Fortuners that it's more sensible to do such a trip in a 270kw V8 sedan.

Averaged 9.6l per hundred km, which isn't too bad, I think.
