is dumping the clutch bad for the 330i ? what could happen, bcause i dump it on 4500rpm most of the time and it launch like a rocket

4500 sounds high, I thought 3000 was close to optimum for a E90 330i Manual launch. Well you rev a bit higher so when it drops, it takes at about 3k.

If you still have your CDV then you aren't doing a true 'dump' anyway.
So you might even be able to get faster times without the CDV.
It limits the clutch fluid so you can't put too much strain on the car but apparently it makes your clutch wear out faster.

I don't dump the clutch so I plan on removing the CDV.

Does yours still have CDV? I am really keen to have mine removed and have the modified valve put in so that everything still looks standard at least. Yep, the CDV basically prevents sudden and direct clutch control, so in most cases just causes premature clutch wear - but it does potentially protect the more costly other drivetrain parts from shock from violent dumping of the clutch etc.

I also think 4500 rpm is a bit high (more likely to break traction), so 3000 - 3500 rpm is probably the sweat spot!

It's not just the clutch you need to worry about when lunching hard. For example, the bearing in the diff where the drive shaft goes in also takes a massive beating. Also side shafts and pretty much all the bushings holding the engine, gearbox, and diff in place.

I won't even bother with my old 540. It's to heavy anyway.

How did u take this vid? Go pro? What did you use to hold the cam?
Looks like you held your phone against the steering wheel using your right hand.

I must still find a good location mounting point for my GoPro for the instrument cluster - have only really used it for forward shooting out of the windscreen, so actually also need to play around with some more creative angles in and out of the car...

Only problem I see here is to get someone brave enough to actually drive with me and film my 325i going 0-100 :fencelook:

I`ll be game to take the vid? :fencelook:

Just you aren`t allowed to . . . . .:wrongforum:

We not saying you should stop doing launches, but ease up on the revs & reserve launches for special occasions ;)

LOL, apparently the Ferrari Enzo's clutch only allows for 3 "special occasion" proper launches! Then you need to open a very large wallet to pay for the new clutch! :nonono:

No!!! you not serious ? what.. only 3 launches!!

what is the optimal rpm for launch on lets say a 335i auto box (whats the default setting..3500rpm?) there is another thread were the 335i owner stated that his 335i refs up to 5500rpm on launch control - he said even Gti has better launch than his 335i ..

Ok, so no video, but my daughter took the time on her phones stopwatch. I did the run a few times, and the worst run I had wheelspin due to sand on the road, did a 7.86 seconds 0-100.

So had a few better launches, and the best time was 7.06 seconds.
In Pretoria, at 13:40 in the afternoon, and the temp is 30 degrees, so not bad at all I would think. :dunno:

PS: it was me, my 2 kids aged 12 and 14, a friend also aged 14, and 3 school bags plus kitbags, and a 3/4 tank of feul... not making any excuses here... :mmm:

I think that a lot of it comes down to the timing device.
