Once I have sorted the minor pinking and hesitation issues that I am having with my car I will take a 0-100 vid - a bit reluctant to do a full dump the clutch launch, usually from rolling I then boot the throttle etc...

Facts: Up here and at the coast, a stock pre-lci 330i will just edge a stock pre-lci 330d 0-100, manual or auto.

A pre-lci 330i stock/with software will get easily beaten by a pre-lci 330d with software highveld and coast, manual or auto.

LCI a 330d will kill a 330i manual or auto, highveld or coast.

I think best bet would be to arrange a day out at the track and put this to the test... No offence, but i dont think stock for stock the 330i has a chance against the 330d, expecially 0-100. LCI or Pre-LCI. Forced induction is just that, it forces the car to go. Maybe, 0-40 the petrol will edge but once the 330d starts to spool and turbo kicks in, its all over for the petrol.

Remember, i had a E46 330i with Xcede Software and Branch/Exhaust. They dont pick up as much power with mods, being NA and comparing to 330d is crazy. As many have said, the 330d is compared with the 335i.

Would be interesting, I still believe stock for stock 330i vs 330d pre-lci, the 330i would edge it, had an E90 330i for a short while and obviously drove my 330d while it was stock and the 330i just felt a bit more urgent than my 330d. As I've said now with software the 330d will kill the 330i.

The LCI 330d is compared with the 335i. Pre-lci a 330d wouldn't come close to a 335i stock for stock.:thumbs:

Just clarifying here, this whole thread was about stock cars, I know once we add software to both cars the diesel will kill.

Look the moment you have mods & programs its no longer a 330d - its a tuned 330d i believe everyone agrees, std 330i vs std 330d is very close, again have a look at the youtube video 330i vs 330d 0-200, the 330i is 2secs faster.. I understand the 180kw 520Nm is another ball game, but still if you compare Bmws claimed 1Km times, they are almost the same i guess?

I keep forgetting that my car is not stock anymore! My apologies, my responses are biased against my "tuned 330d"...

Stock pre-lci 330i against stock pre-lci 330d, who knows? Lets find some and try them? Same for LCI, etc...

I'm gonna be a bit fussy here and point out that you should account for odometer error to get proper times.

Try this cool app: Car Performance test:
2acea178.jpg

Measure your vehicle's performance figures easily and accurately.

Car Performance is the ultimate tool for car enthusiasts.

Are you interested in seeing how your car / vehicle perform ? Have you made any modifications to your car / vehicle and would like to know the real world gains in performance ?

Car Performance uses the GPS chip (Not the accelerometer) in your phone along with complex algorithms to accurately and easily determine the performance figures for your car. This requires no calibration, no adjustments and is not affected by the elevation or the movement of the phone. All you need to do is get a signal > press start > go! That simple!

Car Performance has an extremely easy to understand interface. It is so simple that anyone can use it.

Performance Figures include:

* 1/8 mile elapsed time and trap speed.
* 1/4 mile elapsed time and trap speed.
* 0 - 60 mph acceleration.
* 0 - 100 mph acceleration.
* Top Speed.
And much more.

Features are:

* Very accurate performance calculations.
* Extremely easy interface.
* Straight forward results.
* Ability to store and review every run.
* Flexible GPS behaviour to suit your preferences.
* Support for MPH and KPH.

I can't help but wondering what would the 80km/h - 160km/h time be for both :joy:

I'll volunteer for that. I don't mind a rolling start, just no dumping of the clutch :nonono:

Nothing wrong with that!!

Yep, as I said on the other thread. The 330d is capable of some pretty amazing gains from a proper tune, unfortunately (apparently) the 330i N52B30 is very limited when it comes to possible gains due to the Valvetronic - so removing cats, better cold intake and flashed ECU is going to get you some gains, but that's about it.

So, this is something to bear in mind if you are buying a car with the intention of keeping it standard or modifying. :idea:

Wouldn't say it's a bad thing, just adds wear and tear, but I doubt that these cars have 'weak' clutches, so the occasion launch shouldn't be a problem. I personally just had a very strange and unnerving thing happen a while back - turned around while on a spirited run and needed to get going very quickly so got the revs up and let the clutch out to go. Revs climbed and the clutch pedal literally did not want to fully release, so ended up with a slight warmer than normal clutch - took a week for the burnt clutch smell to fully disappear! No negative after effects that I can feel - no shuddering or slipping, but generally I have always been gentle on the clutch, so this one odd punishment is no big deal. But one of the mistakes that I made at the time of course, had not turned traction control off, so the brakes and engine would have been working to iron things out, but not really since there was more than enough traction... Do you still have normal CDV clutch?
