My 2009 Golf 5 GTI DSG (60K KMs)

Howsit Guys,

So after owning a Audi 8p A3 1.8 TFSI Sportback, for the whole long period of 3 MONTHS I had an opportunity at a 2009 Golf 5 GTI DSG with 60 000 KMs on it.
Its Steel Grey (X6) which is my favorite Golf 5 colour. The only bummer is it doesn't have xenon lights, but from what I hear it is a easier retrofit than the more modern VWs.
The car is in excellent condition, the leather still has the "Matte" finish to it, and the rear seats really looks like no one has ever sat there. The only visible wear in the interior is the one bolster closest to the driver do has the top layer worn off (Hopefully I can refurb it some how) and curb rash on two of the 18" rims... Went for a test drive on the 25th of November and took delivery on the 9th of December.

Some quick pics snapped up on the day I went for test drive:

Soon to do's:
I Still have my S3 Intercooler I want to install.
I have sourced some OEM xenon headlights so will be installing them in December, must just purchase the harness adapter from Vag-Tec (10-12 pin)
Going to fit a OEM RCD330 Plus radio, to give the cabin a "facelift" (As far as I am aware any revision can-bus after "K" will stop battery drain issues, luckily I have rev "Q")
LED Number plate lights
Might do DP at a bit of a later stage
Cam follower replacement as a precaution
And maybe the DV as well with the later revision
And maybe a flat panel filter replacement or full intake.

And first mod which I couldn't resist, Full LED interior lights supplied by JAB Sport

Nice ride and cool colour :clapper:

Out of interest, what does a set of OEM xenons go for on these cars?

Also installed some Red-Top coil packs (ones I reclaimed from my Audi before trading it in) and at the same time did iridium plugs while I was about it:

I managed to snag a pair for R3K, so got quite lucky there, they aren't spotless, but quite clean and were complete so couldn't resist

I had three mark 2 GTi's and I really like this one. I would take one with a clutch pedal.

But first #poornessmustfall

Time for an update.
First a Merry Christas Picture From My Car:

So I am still waiting for the adaptor to do the xenon conversion, but in the meantime, I did an interior mod, A NEW RADIO.

I decided to up date my RCD300 to a RCD330G Plus, Which is a "new" style VW radio.
I had a choice between the Regular and the Plus, The plus having a bigger screen but no CD drive, both do have built in bluetooth and mirrorlink.
So I went with the plus for the bigger screen as I would stream my music via bluetooth anyway.
I first had to remove my old radio and parrot setup, the parrot system being a massive entaglment of wires, cut into almost every quadlock wire possible, and snake through every nook in the cabin and head liner.
They easily must have used a full roll of insulation tape to intall it in the car as it took me very long to remove it all and my hands were covered in glue by the end.
Old RCD300:

After seeing this wire splicing, I decided I was going to remove the parrot wiring and reconnect the original wires, but through a bit of a more neat method.
So I bought some insulated lugs, and some heat shrink and went to work reconnecting the wires, and I was quite happy with the outcome

After Repair:

Now that the wires were as close to the original shape without replacing them, I installed the RCD330

Also had a GTI 5 (2005) and a 6 (2010) that must be one of the last as the 6 came out towards the end of 2009.

Only thing is with the Xenon's the car came with headlight washers, which goes inside that little cut out on the bumper in between the headlight and bottom grill.

Anyway Many Happy Miles

Yeah cars with xenons came with headlight washers and auto-leveling headlights, because in most European countires this is law, here headlight washers aren't mandatory, so in vcds I just tell the car no headlight washers are installed
