My 1993 E34 525i Manual

Ok so I'm from Cape Town and have loved BMW's since I cannot remember and all I ever want to own is BMW's.

Here is my first car and progress getting the car fixed so far, it wasn't taken care of before I took ownership about 2 years ago.
I was looking for a BMW that was Manual, black leather interior, sunroof, and no less than a 2.5 straight 6 motor.
This was the car I found for the cash I had at the time.

My plan is to get the car mechanically perfect and then start on getting the body repaired

To start I did the brakes, discs and pads, but unfortunately I have no pics of when I fitted them.

I then worked on the cooling system which is almost all brand new, original parts were used, except for the water pump I haven't replaced yet but no need yet.

Some pics of the motor when I replaced the main coolant hose under the manifold, no pics of the actual pipe though.
Must say was not easy without taking the manifold off.

The biggest fix on this car so far was to replace the manual gearbox which had been run without oil and could not roll in gear had to keep accelerating or be in 5th gear to roll while in gear.
Unfortunately no pics of the box being fitted but have pics of the new box.
I actually still have the old one and trying to get it open to see the damage.

I had asked the workshop to replace the clutch as well but told me the clutch was still good so I asked what make it is and It was a LUK clutch so had it replaced with a SACH.
I still have the LUK clutch and plate and release bearing if anyones looking for a clutch kit.

All control arms replaced on the front.

Bilstein sport shocks were fitted to the front but I only have pics of when I got the shocks and not when they were fitted.
I had to order the shock mounts with the bigger diameter hole in the centre which took 2 months from Germany.

When I can think of more stuff that has been done to the car since I got it and can find the pics ill post more.
I still have a lot more I want to do to the car but as it my only car and I have a very small budget every month I have to take my time fixing it.

Im currently looking for a quality mechanic in Cape Town to rebuild the engine with care and quality workmanship.
The workshop I have been sending the car to has let me down too many times so I will never support them again so if any one knows who can work on my M50TU engine let me know please will be greatly appreciated.

Love the e34. Well done on your progress so far.

BUT WOAH! is that an mtech front bumper I see? If so that it pretty rare, and when you paint it properly is gonna make this thing look perfect

Nice bud. Good to see another e34 being taken car of.

If you need some black interior trim, let me know.

Thank you
The bumper needs more than paint though, I'm thinking the previous owner hit a lot of pavements parking the car cause the bottom is damaged and will need repair but when its done will look awesome.
Looking for the M5 rear bumper to fit as well.

I love my E34 its never let me down considering it's condition.

I do need some black interior parts, like my glove box is missing the handle so want to replace the whole piece.
Also missing the trim by the passenger front side that covers the edge of the carpet and then the panel under the steering column that holds the bong speaker.
The rest of the interior is not bad just some stitching has come out on the back seats and the roof lining needs a clean and minor touch up.
I wouldn't mind some better front seats though as the current ones don't support me enough for how fast this car can take corners

I had the same model had 380 000 on the clock only dropped me once with a failed alternator.

Had big plans for her but a E39 came up that I could not say no to.

I'm E34 for life :praise::praise:

Although I would like to own another BMW I'll always own a E34.
If I can help it this is the one ill always own.

Nice to see her getting the TLC she deserves!

E34's are bulletproof!

My dad had a 520i that he drove right up to 450 000km, he then traded up to an E39 540i

Well done on preserving an E34. Very few people are prepared to care for old cars. I also have a 1993 model :) Congrats!

Thank you very much for posting. Good work on the restoration so far.

It is unfortunate but i think you will find that most e34's are of not taken care of kind, but I think your's looks like a very worthy project.

I wonder where the PO managed to pick up a M-tech front bumper....well what I recommend it to take it off then fix it and have it reinforced...these bumpers are super flimsy. (What I would actually recommend is that you take it off and ship it to me in exchange for money  )

I second this. Well done on putting in the effort to sort out the mechanicals. Most E34s these days either get distastefully riced or horribly neglected.

Good luck further with the project.

Awesome to see my E34 getting the love from me as well as the forum, much appreciated guys.

Once I can find someone here in Cape Town to rebuild the motor ill be getting onto the body work to fix a few dents and then the bumpers.
Anyone that can help me with tips to getting the motor rebuilt and who can do it?
So far the workshop the cars been going to when I'm unable to do the job has given me too many problems and the quality of work is really poor so the car will never go there again, they say they are BMW specialists but I have to tell them how to do their job :nonono:

+1 000 000:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

The 540 I own was Rick's. The only reason I actually bought it was due to his integraty.

There a few ex Rick cars on the forum I'm sure they will all echo my sentiment.

Thank you @RAArmstrong, @Sankekur for the tips.
I'm going to see what rick540i recommends otherwise ill look into garage 808.
I see Garage 808 is mentioned a few times in the forums for great work so will deffinitly look into sending the e34 there in the future for repairs and servicing.

I can't imagine how sad it must have been to let go of a M5:cry:
But a B10 bi turbo would be a great build:thumbs:

I would like to find a e34 M5 but there are none here in Cape Town that i know of in good condition and i can't imagine the price to restore one.
There is an M5 i know of for sale but the engine it in the boot and damaged. Been sitting in the same spot for over 2 years, really sad to see:cry:

Man o man did you miss out AndyGP bought Rick's not sure what price, but I'm sure it was excellent value.

Rick let me drive her & his short throw conversion works a treat.
Some Pic's I took of her. (note this is before he put on OEM bumpers & wheels)

If you intend owning one, I recommend you befriend the new owner & snap it up if it ever comes on the market.
