£28,000 equates to around R470,000, so I wonder what the price would be locally with all the taxes etc.

x 5, cos government needs their piece of the pie.

As a Mercedes fan and owner myself, I want to like this, but I'm not sold on the interior (no doubt the press release photos are of the highest spec model; entry level models should look even more bland). It should have gotten the GLE's interior or at least the GLC's.

From this angle it's very generic looking and even reminds me of a Chinese bakkie, which probably isn't a good thing.

I have little doubt that it will sell though and Audi can be hot on their heels (all they have to do is dress up an Amarok) and BMW is sure to follow too. We'll have R1,000,000 bakkie options available in no time.

Prices will start at R550 000.00 (as per article).

Allocation for 2018 already sold out apparently

Disappointed with the look of the dashboard plastics, was expecting more. That being said, this by Merc, is a wide move and entering a marker they were not in before, and makes much more sense to me then making another X series derivative like the x3m , X4 and the soon to be x7.

Good move I think, would be Keen to see if BMW follows suit.

I would expect BMW and Audi to make a competing product, like they do with all the other sizes and shapes of their vehicles. Hopefully not though:rollsmile:

The interior is its biggest flaw. Competition has better looking interiors.

Better looking...maybe, BUT...

Anyone that has ever driven in a Ford / Hilux will tell you that most bits are cheap ass plastic.

I think the reason Ford / Toyota etc.. use cheap plastics for the interior is to keep costs down.

R550 000 wow..thought it would easily be at R700 000 considering how insane car prices are in SA

Local prices are yet to be confirmed from what I understand.
I'd be surprised if there's a sub R600,000 option, given that the Navara on which it's based starts at ~ R520,000 up to R590,000.

Not happy with the looks of this Merc. I'll stick to my Wildtrak.

Can't wait for the kits to come out though, I'm sure this thing is gonna look like a beast once it's all kitted up.
