I did a oem nav install into a customer's e46 a few years back. Was a PITA of note. Few months later he was back to have it changed out for an aftermarket unit.
The oem units lack connectivity, aftermarket units have USB, Bluetooth, aux ect so you put all your music on a stick drive in the glove box and you sorted.
