Hi guys

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. The last time I posted, I was deciding between an E90 335i N55 and an F30 320i N20. Since then, I’ve gotten a better and much higher paying, as well as more demanding Job, which allows me the chance to look at a newer and better car rather than those 2 previous options.
As much as I wanted an F30 335i, they are still well over the 300k range for good condition low mileage ones And I think my extension travelling from my new job wont be ideal for the 335i.

My new budget of R300k has made me look at the 320d and the LCI 320i with the B48 motor. Of course, I know the 320d will always be the better option in terms of fuel and reliability, however I have found a 2017 F30 320i LCI with less than 100k on the clock within my budget which I will attach the link for.

In terms of the B48 motor, obviously I know they are an upgrade to the N20; but how reliable are they exactly ? I also would like to Know costs such as servicing, tires, oil, possible issues with these motors and the costs for those specific replacement parts. I do plan on eventually doing a downpipe and maybe a light tune to get close to 330i numbers.

This is the car I plan on purchasing : https://www.autotrader.co.za/car-fo...838?vf=2&db=1&s360=0&so=1&pl=1&pq=0&pr=2&po=1

Any advice would be appreciate, especially from B48 owners.

I did some research on the B48 before buying and couldn't find any worrisome issues.
My car is a 2018 B48 320i and its tuned. No problems to report. I just keep up with maintenance. You can visit my thread on more of that.
I however do service the car every 10 000km or less.

Tires are pricey depending on what you go for. Shop around and you should be good. I opted to stay with runflats and bought 2 new rear tires last November. If I remember correctly I paid around R4200 per tire for 255/35/19 Bridgestone runflats.

If fuel economy is a concern get a 320d. When I bought I chose petrol as its my preference in exhaust note and the way it provides its power that won me over. I average around 7.5-8.0l/100km in home-work traffic. any other times I just enjoy the car and don't pay much attention to fuel economy.

If my calculations are right, I am getting 11.5 km/l which is 8.6 litres per 100km. This is quite good for driving backroads between Midrand and Randburg. 320i M Sport B48 engine
