Hi guys I was hoping to get some advice and some contact details to get my exhaust done on my 550 F10.

Don't know much about cars but I would like to get the car to signed good I don't want to do a full-on header and straight pipe I was thinking of just doing the exhaust tips a cat delete to try and get some better sound out of the vehicle

Can you guys give me any advice on what I should look out for or should stay away from I also don't know how much something like this will cost and then also if you can recommend any shops that do exhausts in Johannesburg thank you very much I appreciate it and keep the back wheels moving forward

SO these cars end up sounding arguably better than M5s with downpipes and a back box delete (more like 'a V8' than chasing nice noises on the M5/6).

The exhaust manifold going to the turbos (I am assuming this is what you mean by header) shouldn't be changed.

Do the catless downpipes and see how you feel about the sound first because it becomes significantly louder and the back box removal might add in drone as well. Kyalami Exhausts is an option in the North. Xcede can also do downpipes/Exhausts and is sort of more central. There is also TMSS (I think) on the west.

Make sure your 'usual' N63 maintenance is covered off before going down these roads.

Hey man. Thank you for the awesome reply I really appreciate it.

It's my first big car if you know what I mean.

And the reason I got it is that in my head it's "rarer" and I also I like the fact it's a sleeper.

I was considering putting a 520d badge on it.

I work in kyalami so Im going to chat to those guys.

So two more questions.

1. I don't need to do any tuning like getting it remapped if I change the exhaust, I don't want to break it.

2. This is obviously going to cost alot of money I assume. Can you give me insight on to the price of this. I suppose you could pay what you want to pay.

Is it R10 000 or like R100 000. Haha.

Sorry I'm new to the game. N63 maintenance? I'll look that up now.

I would expect downpipes for your car to be less than R10k fitted, best to contact suppliers directly and get prices. You might need cat-delete coding / cat foolers as well. Ask them about this, because your "check engine" light could come on after removing the cats.

Awesome thanks man I appreciate that. I already whatsapped the Kyalami guys. I still have an oil service plan for another year.

I'm guessing that they maybe able to remove the engine warming code.

I also saw a way that you can get into the system to clear codes on the gauge cluster using the cars serial number to clear codes

Around 10K fitted I think for downpipes. The exhaust shop will sort you out. Generally a tune is not 'required' but you do get tunes that are not aggressive.

N63 just needs regular maintenance. BMW issued a care package early in the life of the motor for all vehicles that had it.

z Hot-Film Air Mass Sensors
z PIEZO High Pressure Fuel Injectors
z Engine Vacuum Pump
z Fuel System Low Pressure Sensor/Feed Line
z Fresh Air Intake Turbo Seals
z Crankcase Ventilation Lines (Hoses

Later this included timing chain, more injector revisions (by this point your car should already have the correct index injectors) and an oil pump. There were also revisions to the breather system.

What you DON'T want to have is running the defective injectors, ending up with the cylinders going out of round because of bore wash/contamination of oil with fuel etc and ultimately having it guzzling oil at a rate of knots...

EDIT: ALSO they reduced the service interval to a "sane" one of about 15000km instead of 25000km which it was initially LOL. Guys were running out of oil/running engines with oxidised oil etc. Part of the reason I pre-emptively paid for extra oil changes on my F10 M5 despite having motorplan covering the normal intervals.

:( This is a car along with an N54 and pre-facelift S63 that required a bit of research before getting into them.

Fingers crossed the previous owner changed some items already. But nothing is unfixable.

DPs will change the sound nicely! Enjoy!

Damn sounds like I'm in for an expensive ride.

The only thing that seems to be an issue is the aircon is very very loud on the left side. I heard that it's a filter box.

Other then that the car seems perfect. No hiccups no funny noises no warning lights.

I purchased the BMW app service thing which I thought would do more but I guess not. Should I phone bmw to check for a service or should I wait for them to call me. I thought the app may do that.

So what would a general oil service cost. Couple grand I'm sure.

So out of interest sake what kind of reliable tuning can you do to this car to make it the ultimate sleeper.

I'm assuming that if you put a bit of money into it it can really become a fast car. I'm about dubious about the 750nm gauge on the infotainment screen though

Stock f10 550i with just a tune.

Oil services are cheap at BMW actually. Worth doing there.

For tuning look at Bootmod3 - about $900. The cable is pretty cheap (E-NET). Alternatively if you're not up for that there is Xcede. Plenty of power to unlock. Just keep up with the maintenance and all those items to watch out for.

I had BM3 on my F10 M5 and it was simple to use for me but admittedly not for everyone DIYing flashing and logging with a raspberry pi etc :ROFLMAO:. Here is the link for your car

Jeez that bm3 looks incredible, I have messed around with some arduinos coding same canbus scripts for battery management but that looks scary enough to broke my car.

Surely with just that bm3 the car would sound infinitly better.

You seem to know your stuff. Is it a hobby for you or are you in the I dustry.

What are you busy driving\working on currently

Not in the industry - just an enthusiast :ROFLMAO:. I had my F10 M5 for nearly 7 years. BM3 does make it sound better but advisable to do downpipes before for some of the more aggressive maps. Read up more on it and what specific tips and tricks exist for the 550i.

The Raspberry Pi bit won't phase you if you already messed around with arduinos and things. You just flash the software onto an SD Card and the Pi acts as a WiFi hotspot to your phone (you do everything through your phone app over Wifi). You connect it to your car via the ENET (Essentially OBD2 to RJ45) cable. You can leave it connected and hidden somewhere (like under your seat) to log.

I have an F90 M5 now which is stock (still under plan so it's the M Performance stuff: Suspension, wheels, carbon etc) and a 4C (links in my signature)

Your m5 is epic man. What does that car not have. It must be fast as hell.

I don't really look up specs on cars because I think they more of a marketing thing these days. But your m5 would be my ultimate.

Why I like the concept of your m5 is because why can't you go fast and be comfortable. One of the things I love about my 550i is the boot space.

I bought my wife a Haval jolion because of the kids and that it's a small SUV, to be honest the 550i with the boot space is actually more practical, one of my best things ever is the window blinds for my 2 year old.

Not sure if you every in JHB north but would love to see your car man.

Oil service at agents near me ,including cabin filter was just above R2300.

I am sure we can arrange something!

I got my F10 when my son was about 3 months old. Between the F10 and my wife's C200, I've never needed an SUV... and never even got close to running out of space until now that they're a bit older and I have the occasional use case for 2 dogs and 2/3 bikes + 2 kids but then even a small/medium SUV wouldn't be able to do that particularly well.
