I would take any one of the 3 M's - E46, CSL or E90.
You one lucky man to have owned all 3.

Make that 4, Fordkoppie had an e36 m3

Congratz Chris on your latest aquisition and excellent review, always enjoy your inputs about cars

The one M car I really really want is this very one you have! :inlove:
White E90 M3 is just perfect! IMO E90 M3 > E92 M3.

Congrats Chris. She's just beautiful. Let's see how long she lasts

Interesting comparison...being a light weight special edition which costed significantly more than a standard e46 M3, comparison with an e90/92 M3 may be a mismatch. I think that the e92 M3 gts (which we unfortunately never got) was more of the spiritual successor to the csl.

Congrats on the latest acquisition. Really enjoyed the insight into the differences between the ///M's but one things for sure....they're all special in their own way.

I think I may be biased but the E92 is epic and would probably change your feeling in your comparison but then again i have never been in an e90 M3 to know how they differ. Epic thread

:inlove:

I also think it is an epic car. That is why I got it. It would have been pretty silly for me to buy something I didn't like.

It is just that it is a little underwhelming when compared to the CSL.
The CSL was sold for a few reasons, but mainly because I could no longer live with that retarded horrible gearbox.

I appreciate the V8 for what it is, and it has its own merits which makes it a great car IMO.

I have driven all the derivatives, and the e90 and e92 feels exactly the same to me. Only the e93 feels completely different

Would the GTS be a worthy adversary for the CSL then.
Isn't the CSL to the std E46 what the GTS is to the std E90/92, so compared these steroid models may give you an almost like for like comparison.

Let's not forget what the CSL was built for.... And you're soooo right about that clunky SMG gearbox.

This one is for all the motorplan minions:

So this is yet another testimony of exactly how much the dealers care for your car whilst on motorplan.

The M3 was serviced by BMW exactly 3000km ago @ 48600km. FSH obviously.

Don’t tell me this is 3000km’s dirt

Also look at the date of manufacture

Picture080_zpsfa878cd2.jpg

The car’s date of man is Jan 2008 while this filter is August 2007.

Old vs new.

Picture078_zpsba81e663.jpg

The old one was extremely hard. I won’t be surprised if it would have crumbled within the next few months/kms.
I am of the opinion that BMW service a car by washing it. I won’t be surprised if 90% of all BMWs under motorplan still drive around with the oil they left the assembly line with.

The old filter was quite heavy compared to the new one. It was saturated with sand.

One could also see that the torx bits were untouched on the filterbox lid.

The car sounds slightly different now :fencelook:

I also drained the oil just after I got it, and the oil was really dirty (had about 1500km on the oil since the last BMW service)

This makes me really de moer in!! Can you freakin believe it? I would shove half of that up the DP's ass and the other half up the guy who did the "service"

Woah, that is seriously uncool. That filter looks 30 years old! In fact the filter I pulled out of my 635 looked better than that.
That is truly shocking, but makes me remember something. I put a BMC filter in my E90 and just before it went in for a service put the original back in. It wasn't replaced either. Just goes to show, what else are they omitting to repair/replace/service under MP?

Sorry guys but I do not get you here...

I had the SMG in my M3E46 convertible for 100000km....NO problems during that time and first clutch! And trust me...I did not drove it soft...
