Bought another M

And I did it again

Bought another M car.

This time I was looking for a V8 BMW to take on the V8 Thunder Tour, I don’t want to take my V8 M3 because who knows what nonsense we will get up to and I don’t want to put so much mileage on the car (yes I know garage queen, my choice)

So I was looking at a E39 540i, because they relatively cheap and then after the Tour would just sell it if u didn’t like it. Drove one and it’s a nice car but it’s just not for me.
So I upped the budget and decided to look for a E39 M5!

I saw one really rubbish example and simply walked away immediately, then checked 2 others, 1 low mileage but high price and one price within the budget but with 272000km with FSH, mileage put me off and it still needed some work!

Then by luck I heard of a car in Cape Town and managed to twist the rubber arm of the owner who had bought it 5 days prior šŸ˜œšŸ˜‚ he wasn’t selling it but I made him a good offer.

The car came with lots of new parts and old parts the previous owner had already changed, lots of preventative maintenance was done.

So let me introduce you to my new acquisition a 2000 BMW E39 M5 in Le Mans Blue with 156000km

It’s 25 years old so it isn’t perfect but I have started doing a few things and once done it’s perfect for what I want it for and will be a keeper!

Engine and gearbox oil change done
Some polishing and cleaning, done
Headlights polished and some repairs done, car came with a spare set of LCI lights but that’s possibly a later project
Shocks replaced
Under carriage covers that were broken have been replaced with new ones and missing front centre cover also replaced
Wheels currently being refurbished back to original spec (outer lip was polished and looks terrible)
New Tyres, Bridgestone Potenza Sports., very difficult to find matching tyres in the sizes required.
Because it’s a Road Trip/ Tour car I sourced a retrofit radio that looks like the original radio but has Apple CarPlay, keeping the 4ā€ screen and tape player in storage.

Still to do,
Rear 1/4 of Alcantara roof lining sagged a little so need to fix
Glass on Side mirrors needs replacing they have gone hazy, but dealership prices for glass only is absurd, they crazy!
We found on the lift the bottom right corner of the bumper is cracked, you can’t see it, but after the Tour will get it repaired and repainted.

Oh and the car has some aftermarket exhaust which is freaken loud, but perfect for the Tour so those Luminas and Mustangs on the Tour can me coming šŸ˜œšŸ˜‚

Otherwise the car runs like a dream and man it still pulls so strong, no replacement for displacement.
In my opinion it’s the 2nd best M Car ever made, the E46 M3 Manual will for me always remain the pinnacle and the Best M Car ever made

Congrats bud, a Le Mans blue E39 M5 is holy grail   .

You literally have a dream collection with all the other M's you have, especially the E92 Comp, and not forgetting the 2 solid Toyota's. That V8 cruiser you have is a gem, and will definitely hold its value.

We need pics of all of them together:love:
