BMW to stop production in SA - parts shortage

They are stopping production for a day. Interested to see if they can really limit the halt to just one day - impressive (and expensive) supply chain intervention if they have managed this.

On social media guys have misunderstood this because of the click-bait presentation from some of our local media...

Targeted production for BMW SA (3 series) is 75000 units/year (BMWSA website). This is 205 cars/day (if they work every day of the year).

So, losing one day of production is a big thing, especially if you consider any delays to exports.

Wow. Didn't think of it this way. So that messes up targets for sure then...

Unless they move up a scheduled maintenance day and re-plan.......

And for argument's sake, let's say the average selling price per vehicle is R 500,000.00, it means the retail loss for the day is over R 102,000,000.00 (102 million, in case Zuma is reading).

They probably over produced to take up the slack of the down time.

The brand wouldnt shoot themselves in the foot like that.

How do they overproduce if they don't have steering wheels?
Probably going to rush the delivery of the steerings and end up with substandard components

if they work as the same as Unilever, then 1 day of the month is stock take, where plants comes to a standstill, if BMW does the same then they might move it to catch up lost time.

also like last month,we cancelled stocktake to make up for lost time due to the public holidays over april,so that also might happen

Hyundia Parts head office closed from wednesday till monday.

They do it twice a year, we just order more shit before they close and any other items that arent fast moving must just be strong and wait.

They usually just introduce a 3rd shift or shifts over weekends as they don't usually produce over weekends.

We had to do 3 shifts a day after the changes were made to Roslynn to produce the G01 Model, there were days there were also parts shortages from suppliers although those were local suppliers so this could be longer delays as the ones we had earlier this year.

They'll catch up to those production figures again.
