BMW M3 driven by Shmee

I like shmee. He works hard, he uploads almost everyday. Its nice to see a owners perspective for these supercars.

I like his enthusiasm for all the cars he reviews and drives.
Better than some of the guys who don't know much about the cars they drive

Yep, I agree I noticed they starting to drag the crux of the content nowadays.

Shmee and supercar blondie are too annoying to watch, the channels I enjoy are more focused on building cars like Cletus McFarland, Fasterproms, b is for build, DDE, speed academy, goonsquad, boostedboiz, driftworks, hoonigan, Tavarish and a few others. Used to enjoy salomandrin too but he doesnt do much these days.

Leroy!!! :praise:

My wife laughs at me whenever I swear at my screen 5 sec into every Shmee video.... I don't know why, I can't stand hearing the guy say "Hi guyths I'm thShmee!".

And besides... They're all paid advertisements it seems. The recent M8 videos are just too obvious that he didn't buy the car nor is he spending money on the M accessories.

Ya LOL - hard work in the same way Paris Hilton works hard.

You sometimes see the kinds of crews behind the scenes on these videos (and on the IT related youtubers, their studio sets, editing rigs etc) and it is very obvious that they are NOT just average guys or average owners. They also get a ton of stuff sent to them for FREE - must check out Gamers Nexus and some of the clips of him exposing the shenanigans where companies try to 'pay him off'. Also check out Larry Bundy Jr and some of his vids (a little annoying on the voice side too) but about gaming companies paying for reviews even since the days of print.

Goes for most youtubers: the money they get for spreading misinformation and stupidity is insane. At least some of them in this thread (even Shmee) are not as bad as those can be.

I've had this gripe with automotive YouTubers for a while now... Becomes less about content and more about maximizing views. Especially as a car guy, it's clear to see that the content is chosen specifically for video interactions.

B is for Build as an example, the channel started off really well and now it's turned into a business. Zero care goes into making the cars actually drivable for more than the video series, they're then left to rot in the road in front of his house. (look at the Z4 he built with Tavarish if you need an example of something that was done just for views). I realize the entertainment comes from the actual build series however as a car guy, it's really difficult to overlook the shortcuts that are taken.

IMO greed from sponsorships has taken over, to the point where it's not even worth their time to try and sell the cars once they're done with them.

100%

And then you get some average joe that somehow thinks these happy go lucky idiots who are 'making these mistakes' or 'showing how easy it is' while selling cars for auction sites are just like them... then they go and buy the cheapest <insert money pit here> and dig a massive financial hole for themselves trying to also do this in record time. Pimp my ride effect for the 2020s.

At least now there are a few that have gone to the extent of showing how badly into a hole you can get and why you shouldn't buy one blind... These channels have sparked this phenomenon where people who have no clue are bidding on literal junk thinking they are going to have some 'amazing deal' on or even make money off of.

Anyone in the real world who has ever attempted a restoration or rebuild or mods of these kinds will tell you a very different story. Some of these projects, again 'in the real world' would cost someone (even doing labour themselves) several times more than just going and buying a decent car to begin with. It's obviously sponsor money and free parts.

Could not get into DDE... and would not watch even if you paid me. I hope one day my kids don't end up like some of these guys.

Like journalism - something died between 2010 and 2015

Yup nail on the head, many don't see the marketing exercise for what it is... The car itself, tools, parts.. Heck even the workshop gets sponsored.

This is why I enjoy channels like Hoovies garage, sure there is still an element of revenue made from these vids but he takes a realistic approach with the cars and even the extent of repairs.

It's been interesting. I enjoy vinwiki and Tavarish. Tavarish is generally open about the costs of parts. Yeah, he is sponsored but he isn't pretending that any joe soap can pull in and fix a 720s that has had a smash.

Vinwiki ran a series on "what would you buy" and some of the commentators they got just instantly turned me off.

Either coming across like utter idiots, lacking basic knowledge or just seeming unpleasant.

I do also enjoy some matt farah and doug demuro. Chris Harris is generally decent too.

The rest, shmee, salomondrin etc. etc. They just seem like idiots. I mean, we all know a lot of these guys are lucky and had mummy and daddy to sponsor them. At least Matt Farah has been open about how lucky he is that his family have money etc.

Yep, read his bio. Gent makes it sound like he just stumbled into all the money to buy those rides himself because he worked hard (as a ski instructor LOL). Sigh. Even pulling well clear of 1m views a week (which shmee definitely doesn't) he wouldn't be able to pay insurance on all his cars, let alone actually buy them.

Obviously mummy and daddy and sponsors sort him out. His personal collection is quite cool, but I don't think he has many rides of interest *mostly* because that level of car is of no interest to me personally (but I do get why it's fun to watch).

I mean, will I ever be able to afford to spend clear of R10m on a car? Almost certainly not. So that class of vehicle, the R4, R5, R6m car is just not something I care about the way I did as a 15yr old. I mean, |is koenigsegg better than pagani?", is not a very interesting question to me. I'd much rather watch garageaholic do an n54 swap into an e30 or watch doug talk about buying his kia than watch shmee talk about his (dad's) new SLS black edition.
