BMW bursts into flames on Durban road

I would hammer a guess at it being the fault of a badly installed or cheap headlight mod.

:eek:mgwaiting: could be a number of things - we all forget fuel lines could have been damaged and leak onto hot exhaust, and never rule out arson.

Howzit guys,. Anybody think this could be to do with the aircon blower wiring? My wiring melted and I could see that causing a fire quite easily.

I know the us had a recall for this but here in Africa, it's probably just considered an unfortunate accident.

Anyways. Any thoughts?

That affected the N52's. Still haven't heard about this in SA (I have a N52 so it is a concern to me).

This - however - seems to be a 335i.

Damn. That's a bit concerning. . Strange tho as you say it affects N52's I've got an n47 and like I said my wires were melted buggered. Had to replace the cables from in the main room. Luckily my fan melted aswell so that's how I worked it out. Think it somehow stopped the short?.

No idea about the N47 but at least you managed to sort it out before it was too late.

This was/is the N52 issue that I was referring to: link

Thanks for the link. It is quite interesting tho. I mean. Even with the car turned off it can still burn. . . Loving the way they say the cars must be parked outside until it's fixed. Nevermind the fact that here your car will be gone before you even get to your front door. Would be interesting to see what causes the connectors to melt and burn. . . Isn't that what a fuse is for?

Agree. It definitely looks to be an E90 335i (can see the dual exhaust system) unless modified that way.......
