So I am busy sorting out some power delivery issues on my M3 and now need the S54 Vanos Seals for the job. Are these still only available directly from the States or is there perhaps a local supplier? Unless someone has a spare set lying around for sale

Picture just because ... we love pics.

Based on my Personal experiance in trying to find for the M54, noone stocks it locally.
I went with the X8r Kit from the UK for the M54 engine and Man what a difference. (was also cheaper than the Beisan kit)

S54 i have to assume the Same. no local stock

Do I understand correctly that replacing the exhaust cam hub is only beneficial if you do not redrill the oil pump disc?
There are different options. Beisan recommends replacing both. They have stock bmw dimensions on the hub and smaller holes on the pump disk. Vag and 5150 have larger tabs on the hub that can work with the stock disc. Think drvanos has same setup as beisan. I went with 5150. They use a very hardened material and larger tabs. Figured if the stock hub tabs lasted 200kkm then this version wil certainly outlast it. I will however measure the disc holes to see if they are not too enlarged.

Seems like beisan recommends both replaced so they can sell two products.

Also some debate if you want to replace the hub or disk. I feel hub is better cos thats where the tabs break, stock tabs probably a bit fatigued when aged already. Others argue if you eliminate play the stock hub will last with new disk.

DrVanos uses secondhand hubs which they cryo.
Beisan manufacture their own hub.

I would choose Beisan above all others as they have been at it since 2012 long before anyone else.

The oil pump disc can be CNC machined to the exact tab size and they will not break provided the whole system has been overhauled with seals diaphragm springs and rattle kit with needle bearings.

You actually need some elasticity in the hub as hard materials are invariably brittle.
The degree of elasticity is a subject all of its own.

Thank you gents, very beneficial information being shared here.

I have replaced the chain and chain guide as well (among other things) during this process as my car is on 168000kms.

It was just one of those while we in here with the mileage of the car, we may as well refresh certain components.
Did you change the crank sprocket as well?
New chain old sprocket accelerated wear on both.
New chain New sprocket ideal
