Hi guys,

Update time.....

Managed to source some parts, but unfortunately I couldn't get the turbo back before the lockdown.

Maintenance items:
*Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 5L oil
*New 1L G12 coolant
*exhaust mani gasket
*intake mani gasket
*Conti timing belt kit
*oil filter

New clutch:
- The clutch has been re-designed to enable it to handle a lot of boost and torque. As can be seen in the pictures, you will be able to see that the buttons on the plate are skew. This helps with full contact patch on the flywheel and pressure plate.

Final items:
*New copper nuts for Turbo mani from Agents

*Pratlock for flywheel bolts and some cleaner to clean out the old Pratlock

I'll assemble everything that I have for now and then I'm just waiting on that turbo.

Hey there fellow fanatics!

I haven't updated this thread in a while, but quite a lot has happened in the interim.

Where to start..... :wondering:

The boost pipes as well as the TIP was black because of the turbo leaking and the soot spreading all over. Decided to give them a clean and while at it the gearbox got a clean as well -

Seeing as I got the clutch back, I decided to reinstall it. This however transpired into a spiral of events. But more later on that....

Stay tuned, a lot of other updates coming

Next up was the door card. Somehow the leather came loose and so I used some material glue to try and mend it. Came out better than expected.

I'll take some better after photos when I get the time. While the door card was off, I installed a set of JBL's in front.

I cleaned the boot a bit by redoing the wiring for the battery as well as the nos line going through. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of this.

Some small niggles and touchups I did while in lockdown

Installed a 4-bar map sensor -

Next up was the bumper. I always wanted to try the "V" look and I think it came out quite well. The "V" together with the two centre grills is painted matt black and the two outer foglight grills together with the badge is gloss black -

A better explanation of the "spiral of events". The initial clutch plate I got with the new clutch kit did not fit that well on the input shaft of the gearbox. It went on, but you had to force it and I was told the splines were still new from machining and that it would go on when installing the gearbox. Stupid me for listening to people that didn't know what they were doing.

After 2 attempts of trying to install the gearbox, I managed to crack the gearbox casing and in the end it bent the clutch plate. Company that built said I bent the plate and that they won't be honoring the warranty. Long story short, I had to get someone to weld the box and source a new clutch plate.

Onto some pics -

Learning from the whole clutch saga, I decided to take the plunge and just do everything proper 1st time around.

The decision was made to take the engine out as I want to clean everything and rebuild the head. This will essentially help me to turn up the boost and throw some nos at it. I'm in the process of sourcing all the parts and hope to have everything by the end of the month. I'm also still waiting for the turbo

First time I've ever taken an engine out of a car. Not only am I excited for what's ahead, I get to learn a lot in the process and expand on my DIY knowledge.

Next up was to start with the engine bay. I have started with the left side and will do the right side as time allows.

Nothing a bit of prepsol and iron out can't fix.

I've been wanting to spray the intercooler for quite some time and I finally got the opportunity to buy some spray.

Next up was the brakes. The green brakes were terrible and I decided to go the yellow route as well. Took much longer than I expected as 13-years of brake dust ain't easy to get off. Once again, prepsol and iron out did the trick.

A lot of updates all at once, but I have been slacking in the updates department.

Goals have been set and they will be reached. Have some components coming this week and hopefully I can get the turbo back soon and then it's just small things and I will have the sooter back on the road.

Really liking the "V" look on the bumper! gives it a much more modern and aggressive look  keep up the good work and keep those updates rolling

Small update to this thread. I'm planning on building the head this weekend. Got most of the parts, except for 4 rocker bolts that should be at VW tomorrow.

List of parts:
- OEM Rocker bolts
- OEM Cam cap bolts
- OEM injector bolts
- Victor Reinz ARL headbolts
- INA blacktop lifters
- Borsehung cam bearings
- Firad 160% injectors

This is the combination I'm going for. Would have been great to add a cam to the combination, but that's out of my reach at this moment in time. I'll be sure to document the build and keep you guys updated.

Nicely done. These are true little rockets.

My mate had one that was running 140wkw and nearly 500nm I think. Was properly quick, and properly Smokey
