2018 VW Golf GTD

I have been putting of starting this thread as okes are gonna complain it's not a BMW. Is weird feeling though, I have been driving BMW's since 2012. Not a very long time admittedly. Point is tomorrow afternoon I will be driving a VW. Technically I have made myself a liar... my first car was a VW and the dealer experience was so bad I said I would never drive one again...

Also my first diesel, finally got round to getting one, the high cost of fuel kinda forced my hand. So when the guys form VW phoned me and explained the GTD deal to me including a 75k discount, I had to consider it and with a 120d with the same speck at 160k more expensive than the golf it was a no brainer. Obviously the 160k excludes any discount that may have been offered.

Ok, I'm rambling, collecting the golf tomorrow so looking forward to it very much. Specification is pretty decent with lots of std kit, has that digital display instead of traditional speedo and rev dials, it looks really cool, upgraded sound, rear view camera and other things I can't remember now.

Anyway I have pics of the car but I can't post them so someone is going to have to help me please.

Maybe one day if cash flow allows it I can have a 6cyl petrol beemer again.

I must say I’ve also been looking at the new Tiguan-not for me though-for the wife, the offering is not bad and I think were gonna get . I’ll stay with bmw until no more rear wheel drive.

I am the biggest fan of RWD, but the problem with having had a 135i coupe. What do I replace it with that is similar that will not break the bank. At the auto Bavaria meet the other day a 240ì was on the floor for well over R800k and that is just not something I can afford. Plus then the petrol an insurance expense. I really hope the current fuel prices isn't the norm going forward.

Congrats. What's was the final price of the gtd? Still haven't seen one on the road yet.

Haven't seen any either. Explains the discount , but I will take it. In 5 years will see how much the car depreciated.

Total ended up R485k. Same price as I paid for a F20 125i in 2012.

It's not a fast car by current hot hatch standards at all, but I think it's time to hang up the 'boy racer' shoes.

Very nice purchase i must say!
Think you'll be smiling every time you look at the fuel gauge...although it seems Diesel itself is becoming alot more expensive than petrol.

Great deal with R75k discount.
There's 3 things i would do to it...remap, wheels, and a drop.

Congrats!

I am a fan of all the tech stuff you are getting with the car.
VAG are the leaders in that regard.

However, I would have gone with a run out (or demo) 320d (maybe I am biased ;) ), admittedly would not be as well specced at that price. And no digital cockpit either :(

If you are on the R55 one Sunday morning, would love to have a friendly dice...

It's not a dice, it's a performance test... and all within the legal speed limit remember. :pimp:

Congratulations. I like these. Seen one around Centurion lately.
There was a debate on the VW forum whether the premium warrants a purchase over a normal 2.0TDI golf 7.

Personally I like it. You get the looks of a Gti and a lot more kit, and the consumption of a diesel.

There is a reason there is so many varieties of cars around. To suit everyone's taste.

Considered a tdi but it's just too boring to look at. Mind you, was offered a demo from Duttons VW for R445k. So the discount on the GTD made the tdi pointless. Maybe I just lucked out needing a car at the right time.

Ive been in one of these..and i liked it...also sounds good (not 100% sure, but it does have an artificial engine note that is played through the speakers...if not, then its a very good sounding 4pot diesel). Performance is there, right up with the 120d:thumbs:, interior is also a nice place to be...and that digital cluster:praise:

You dont see many around, mainly cause they are over priced (looking at the list price that is), coming in at 475K...this is a good deal, all things considered...i mean that can most likely only get you a brand new 118i 3 pot:hammerhead:

Enjoy it bud...hope to hear a full review shortly:bravo:

Congrats on the car, I love VW interiors. That whole package with the the GTi looks and the thinking man engine. I love it.

Saw this during #Dubrun2k17

Apparently Joburg to Durban overall consumption on the GTD was 3.9l/100

This is instant...
