Good day everybody.

I purchased a clean X3 3.0d in 2025, with only 165 000km on the odo at the time of purchase. The vehicle has full service history. It is now almost a year later. I have done a oil service with various filters, last year af the purchase.

I need to do the next service and need advice what do I need to look at. The gearshifts are smooth, it pulls like a train. This is also my first diesel vehicle.

I have read a lot on DPF, EGR and swirl flap delete with a stage 1 tune. Would it still be beneficial to do this and what are the real life pro's and con's to do this.

Any additional suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Wow car looks super clean!

I am not too familiar with the M57 but probably have the vibration damper inspected for cracks, change coolant and brake fluid. I am not sure what the gearbox history is but might be too far along to get it serviced at this mileage (ZF will test before advising you). Also worth doing the diff and transfer case oils.

You don't have a DPF but definitely remove the catalytic converter and replace with a downpipe which you can read up on the benefits of.

Thereafter have an ECU remap done to disable the EGR and Swirl flaps you mentioned so you reduce the chance of them breaking and causing expensive repairs later on.

What a lovely thing!

As above, changing all your fluids is never a bad idea. EGR delete will prolong the life of your engine and reduce the chances of costly repairs down the line. Well worth doing a mild tune while you are at it

I just want to be sure with regards to the dpf, what i have read is that the 2010 M57 which would be a late 2009 built does have a dpf. This is all new to me, how would I know if it has or not.

As I said I am not familiar with the M57 but my F series N47/N57 do not have DPF's while European versions do - so I suspect the Euro versions of your car had DPFs.

I am based in Pretoria, i would say shops in Gauteng. I have read of promotions where the dpf/cat is taken and then a downpipe is down for the same value.

Jhb guys can chime in here.

Regarding the promotions, do your numbers first. Cat prices are currently high so you should rather pay for the downpipe, keep you Cat then sell it as you will probably make more money that way. On both my cars I paid around R2500 for the downpipe then sold the Cat for R3200 (F30 320d) and R5000 (F25 30d just last week - hence I know prices are high at the moment)

I had the downpipe on my car done at Raza Automotive a couple of days ago.They have a free downpipe special on most BMW's currently.Contact them to see whether your car qualifies
