Thanks! Credit to RK of course, I'm going to look into getting an upgraded cooler for now. I think I'll hold onto the stock turbo a little while longer. Want to enjoy it as it is for a while before looking at better figures

Update:
Got one of these to play with on the car, will be testing bimmerlink etc with the android head unit to see if it's worth it. I have the normal ELM327 with Torque on the head unit but there is not much that I can do there except the monitoring dials i put on the screen when driving.

Just waiting on pricing for xhp then going to get it done early next week :)
Pricing isn't too bad on the site, works out to around R4400 for the license and all the maps. At least then I can play with all stages to find my preference

Flashed stage 1 with all default config at lunchtime.

Do not play with your phone while flash runs :ROFLMAO:

I was connected to the wifi adaptor and forgot to hit airplane mode before that. Received a call just before it started flashing and boom cog of death and flash failed lol.

Did it properly the 2nd time and it flashed in just under 2 minutes.

Looking forward to the drive home today to see what difference it makes. Can see what gear it's in now which is cool, did about 3km only to mall and back and it seems the occasionally lunge from 2nd to 3rd in traffic is gone but it's way too early to tell.

Will run it for around 100kms then use it with stage1 for a while, play with the features then try stage 2 in a month then stage 3 the month after that

Adaptations after initial flash.

Previous figures were
A 502mbar 0ms
B 8mbar 5ms
C 498mbar 15ms
D 0mbar 32ms
E 5mbar 12ms

For those who would like some feedback here are my experiences so far:

Stage 1 with no addition settings
  1. Gear changes are very smooth, it's really been a pleasure running in the 100 odd km. Mostly in traffic, no WOT at all as per instructions. The map seemed to have settled in quite nicely at around 60km.
  2. It's very eager to get into higher gears even in traffic. I see at it even is happy to get into 6th around 70km/h.
  3. This really seems like a proper economy map for a car without a tune.
  4. Fixed my 2nd to 3rd gear lunge/jerk issue.

Got impatient
Stage 2 Loaded last night with no additional settings
  1. Gear changes seem to be even smoother now.
  2. Shifts to higher gears seem to be calculated much better than stage 1, seems eager but changes at the right time, no gears hanging before shifts.
  3. I did a few half throttle pulls this morning once traffic was done and took another route to work to test uphill, flats etc.
    1. Gearbox handled all scenarios flawlessly, shifts were perfect and it ramped up speeds quite nicely.
I think I am going to stick with Stage 2 until I have an opportunity to test out Stage 3 properly during the weekend.
Stage 2 feels like this is how the car should have been configured from the factory, everything is smooth and it really changed the feel of the drive when compared to the stock and stage 1 maps.

I will update on Stage 3 when I get a chance to test it nicely. For the daily commute, I am very happy with the stage 2 file.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the fetaures? I see there are plenty but I would like to know who has had good/bad experiences with editing those before flashing

Encouraging feedback,

Seems stage 2 is the sweet spot, some folk that went into 3 scaled back to 2 as they found it too aggressive. Think its more geared towards tuned cars (highly that is).

100%, Stage 2 is great so far, will compare 3 to it once I learn how to tweak the settings.

I am a very chilled out driver with this beast for reasons unknown to me :ROFLMAO: . The car will probably never see a drag strip and I have a little fun here and there on empty roads, so I am not sure how Stage 3 fits into my driving style until I try it out.

The software has great potential with it's individual tweaks,, especially with the new models.

There are so many options for D, S, S+, Eco etc so the user just has to test and adjust the settings to their requirements

With xHP, i had Stage 4 on the 8 Speed box and it was awesome. The drive was comfy on Comfort, smooth and very relaxed, into Sport and it got much happier and nippy...tweaked well and the car ran awesome.
Stage 4 was built for Tracking purposes so Sport Plus, the car held onto gears, kept in powerband and shifted tons quicker and was aggressive. The rear tyres just lit up like mad but once it gained traction it put down the speed very fast and the changes were set to aggressive and the rev match was insane.
At the time, many or rather most people found Stage 3 was the sweet spot on the 8 speed boxes, Stage 4 was too much unless you putting that car on the track but otherwise the config worked super!

See here..... Don't come with your stage 4 stories when we can only go stage 3 here mmmkay :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Good explanation! Tried sport mode yesterday for about 2km and was so surprised. Smooth and quick shifts, the car felt like it's meant to be in sport mode all the time lol, it just effortlessly shot up the counter with no hesitation. It was a very happy chappy!

Still on stage 2 for now just over 300km done after xhp flash.

Played again today on the highway between 60 and 140km/h. Man this thing's shifts are smooth in both D and S!

In D, still loves to get into 6th as quickly as it can, I was on half throttle and overtaking was nothing short of amazing and it hopped from 4th to 5th and 6th very quickly without bogging down.

In S, it keeps the car in the right gear and holds revs a bit but in a good way. Little less than WOT sent it up to around 4000rpm and it shifted perfectly, no jerks or delays, the power was ready to be used.

Haven't tried manual mode yet but hope to do that tomorrow.

Stage 3.... Hmm maybe I can install it tomorrow afternoon and provide feedback?

I'll pop you a WhatsApp if I do, but if you were on the fence about it, DON'T BE! Just get the software and come flash it by me, you will not be disappointed!

It's a huge change and a good investment to the car if you planning on keeping it 😎

if you around next week pop by, I'll take you for a drive and you will be sold on it for sure

I didn't know madir... sorry man! But enjoy the Stage 2 dude and then go Stage 3...its amazing how the cars change with the gearbox software, I was very surprised. With that torque, even more fun!

I think I'll load stage 3 this afternoon and test it later or for the Monday morning commute to work 😈

Stage 3 was an insane experience for sure!

D (no additional settings)
Reasonably quick to get into higher gears but I feel that it spends too much time thinking what gear to be in, a lot of changes between 4th to 6th in normal traffic and was a little irritated as my daily commute is 90% slow traffic.

S (no additional settings)
What a transformation! Turns the car into a beast with high revving lightning fast changes! Gives you a nice taste of how the car can really perform if you wanna race around a track or if you have some spirited runs at the drags etc.

Not really aggressive in gear changes, very good and still smooth all the way from 1st to 6th and back to 1st. It likes to stay in 5th anticipating your foot to smack on the pedal.

I set up the decoupling feature after that, at first messed up cos i activated it but didn't set it to on  Even so, it didn't make much difference on a standstill. I was monitoring the fuel cc requests on Torque and it made no difference, only putting it into neutral released the pressure so maybe my car does not like the setting.

Tried shiftmap editor with relaxed mode in D and Sportive+ in S. Definitely not meant for my driving style at all.

D mode felt very lazy just like stage 1, super quick to 6th and was stubborn to move to lower gears unless i pressed more then it kicked me back into my seat.

S mode in Sportive+? A Vin REAL Diesel for sure, mental and encourages you to foot it all the time! Goes right through the rev range and refuses to shift to the next gear until it is satisfied with your foot lol.

I am not going to be driving like that regularly so I went down a notch again.

Back to stage 2 for now :ROFLMAO: @AshG108 You are correct in stage 2 as the sweet spot. Much more smoother on the drive today and I enjoyed sport mode too. Perfect balance.

I mailed XHP yesterday and the guy was very helpful with feedback on my adaptation values.

My figures after stage 3 and playing around yesterday:
Clutch Pressure Time
A 650mbar 24ms
B 101mbar 0ms
C 424mbar -1ms
D 167mbar 0ms
E 50mbar 39ms

Feedback:
Adaptions are in the mid-range, just clutch A and E are a bit out of range. Also, the clutch A pressure of 650mbar seems too high, which could be an indicator of a leaking seal or bad solenoids.
We would recommend changing the internal seals, and solenoids with the next gearbox service to be on the safe side. You can drive like this for a long time but we would recommend to do the transmission service between 200k-220k.

I will drive it around for another few days on Stage 2 and see if the values normalize again, but it looks like the gearbox will need a short holiday at ZF in the near future.

Hi Guys, long time! Car has been behaving so there was nothing much to report 😂

Was out of town for 8 days, car was parked off in the garage. Took for a drive on sunday, filled fuel and parked.

Noticed a nice puddle of oil yday and a small patch again this morning, probably from leftover on the cover.

Dropped it off at A-Mate this morning, they say its from the electrical plug going into the gearbox. They wiped it down, drove it around and parked it off now without the cover to test if still leaking, nothing yet.

Do these cars hate being parked off? Maybe my car was like.... "Ekse, you left me and went on holiday, wait I will show you, I will stain your garage when you drive me again!"

It was suggested that if it doesn't leak by the time I go fetch it, then I drive it for another week or two. If it comes up then book it in, they will strip and see where else.

Anyone encountered this before?

Hi Guys

It happened again, was out for 8 days but found the problem now.

Looks like it's leaking by the one seal by the gearbox pan. Mech says it looks like car standing for long periods, the seal gets too hard and leaks a bit. After driving it a bit today and cleaning the leak, seems good but will check again tomorrow for a few days.

I will reach out to ZF soon for a repair.

In other news, my Absa innovation expired last week so I called in to renew it.

The consultant says that they will only renew it if I bank with Absa so that was quite surprising!

I opened one of those basic accounts and sent them new details. Will see if they complain about renewing it.

I searched around and most complained about it being a 2008 so going to just hold thumbs that they renew this one.

Failing that, goodbye extended warranty. Will just throw money into a savings account each month to cater for any future maintenance and repairs.
