You done the sump replacement and oil on the gearbox. Did you get the kit from ZF? The filter is attached to the sump hence you replace the sump when doing the gearbox service.
I see you mention you still want to do the gearbox service with ZF. Why if the service was done?

The filter was not changed as far as I know, the sump was replaced as it was leaking.

I want to visit ZF soon and do a full check and flush if needed.

Car is perfect aside from 2nd to 3rd. has a bit of a lunge when changing into 3rd gear, quite annoying in traffic but after 3000rpm it's smooth. I rather let them do the full filter/service before i go with the xhp software

The filter forms part of the sump but take it to ZF to check the box out for you.

Cruising on the way to work this morning, take allandale and boom limp mode :(

500m later red overheat light comes on, just as i park it off at work. Checked coolant is alright, I am suspecting water pump decided to die on me.

Heard a very slight hissing sound under engine cover on the right side of the motor

Waiting for it to cool down to take to mech, he is around 1.5km from office so will drop off by him and hope for the best.

Why all the sad faces lol can't be THAT bad......

On a good note, thank god I took out the Absa warranty and activated the day i took the car lol.

Mech will strip and quote them directly, they seem to be quite good as my friend who recommended them has had all his claims paid without fuss for his 335.

Now it's just a waiting game to know exactly what happened, may be a pinhole in one of the pipes who knows lol

She is back! Alive and kicking!

Did water pump thermostat and replaced some pipes as well.

The fan was a bit dodgy, kept on going on and off very quick so just got it replaced one time.

Nice to be back in the beast, was so satisfying coming home from the workshop 😁

Nevermind I'm being dumb..

Wife used the car this morning I didn't know and it didn't feel hot when I opened bonnet. It's fine lol ignore below nonsense in bold

Question..

Car been sitting overnight and wanted to check coolant level this morning.

Ice cold, opening cap and water starts racing out of tank and I closed it quickly....

Could this be pointing to gasket damage or do these cars hold that much pressure overnight? 😑

Hi

It's a bit odd that water gushed out. If engine was still hot, you would've felt it but you mentioned "ice cold". Just keep an eye to be safe.
Ive opened a hot bottle before. Just a very loud hiss from pressure, but no water gushed out.
You never mentioned what was the culprit for the over heating, just a few things replaced.

There's a hack where you can view coolant temperature on dash. Check YouTube for it. Use it to keep a tab on temperature.
I would still do a pressure test overnight for peace of mind.

It's me bein dumb. Ice cold is me touching the water pipe which worried me, not sure why it was so cold but I idled it and used the OBC temp monitor u mentioned. No overheating, and that top pipe heated up nicely as normal. Checked bottom pipes as well, hit up to around 94 degrees then fan kicked in and dropped to 90.

Took it for a long drive then let it cool outside in the shade for a few hours, slight hiss but no more gushing water, I think either it may have been overfilled or not bled enough. Im going to bleed it again in the morning to see if any bubbles come out.

Reason for overheating was definitely water pump and thermostat. We tested thermostat and it was shut closed even after heating it up.

We were not happy with how fan was running so replaced that and it worked way better so it seems to be a combination of things.

I'm happy that cooling system is done now.

I guess sometimes people get paranoid when getting car back after a week, tend to check everything and worry 😂

For those who want to check coolant temp mentioned. I used the below:

Update for this morning's drive:

From Edenvale to Midrand, temps fluctuated from 89 to 95 degrees driving around 100 - 120km/h, and also when in slow traffic to offramp for work.

Got through boom gates and idled car in parking for a few minutes, temps spiked to around 97 then fan kicked in, dropped back to 94/95.

Looks like everything is working as it should! Will do a bit of spirited driving on the way home today and see how temps go.

On a side note, changed my rain 5g at home to rainone and received additional sim cards. Happy to report it works well with the android head unit! Was nice to have an internet connection in the car without having to hotspot

So this is the latest

Noticed this noise a few days ago when I decided to switch radio off and listen to the engine...

No error codes, no smoke, still pulling like a cheetah after its prey 😂

Turbo has no play and all piping checked. No cracks and all clamps tight.

I found just one post on Reddit where the guy was talking about the pcv replacement with a revised unit.

Anyone experience this?

Warranty says if no error codes then I must wait for one to pop up 🤔🥲

Been a while since last post..

Turned out turbo had some play, sent it in to Automate up the road from home.

Cleaned out intercooler and redid seals, turbo recon done, replaced windscreen washer bottle, power steering fluid, fresh liqui moly oil and coolant flush. All covered by Absa warranty 😁

Around 1800km covered since all was done and it hasn't skipped a beat! Not a drop of oil or coolant lost and engine is as clean as the day I picked it up from workshop!

Will be taking it for a first trip down to Natal this week, looking forward to good consumption figures on the long run 😎
