M Performance exhaust replacement

Hi all,

Im looking for advice on the best way forward for my M Performance titanium exhaust on my M4 F82. The baffle plates in the muffler is loose and is causing a rattling sound. What's the best way to get around this? If I go stainless steel replacement, what can I do with my existing exhaust?

Thanks.

Find a place that is competent that can work with Titanium.

Cut the top part of the box that will not be visible, remove the broken guts, replace the internals and weld up.

100% - backbox mod it bro...much cheaper and still enjoy it.
Alister at XFlow did mine...EPIC!

Thank you, I've done this ~4 months ago, but I was advised it will not last - which it didn't. I don't want to repeat this exercise again. I have been informed that when titanium cracks, the fix becomes the weak spot.

It also involves the process on how it was welded , Ti really needs to be properly back purged, if we are being honest, there are not many welders that do this, hence the weld will always be compromised.

Agreed. Im in the Western Cape and there doesn't seem to be any welders who can do a proper job. Any other alternatives? I've been advised to replace it completely with stainless steel.

That is true, Mine lasted vover 5 years.
Alister does these to the M4s as well, give him a call Tyrone even for him just to check if he can help you out for now. Maybe worth a shot before fitting a full system, which he can also do but always good to have options bro.

I may be mistaken, but I’m fairly sure TMSS can work with Titanium (or were attempting to at one point). Unfortunately, that might mean shipping the unit up to JHB, which a few WC guys already do across brands when the work down there isn’t up to scratch.

At the very least, I’d still attempt a warranty claim or bare minimum, log a complaint with BMW.

Small rant incoming about the current M Performance exhausts:

The current M Performance systems for M cars (which are NOT Akrapovic anymore) have become a bit of a joke, honestly. The price has doubled compared to when the Akra was still the supplier, yet the quality has gone backwards, especially the tailpieces which is horrendous considering this is the only part you actually see .

As a R100K–R120K exhaust? Fine. Pay a premium for plan and exotic materials... sure.
But R250K+? GTFO. I fell off my chair with one of the other threads talking about current pricing.

I’m fine with a slight quality drop if it controls price but this isn’t that. This is double-dipping: worse product, higher price.

When I used to look under the car (during wheel alignments usually LOL) you would easily spot the 'evolving' heat pattern of the Akrapovic exahust which remained a work of art til the day I sold it 7 years later. On the F90, there’s literally a visible line in the carbon on one of the exposed sections of the tip. I’ve seen fake carbon tips with better finishing. And that’s absurd considering these new tips cost more than the Akra tips did. The current one (I believe made by Eberspächer) simply isn't of the same level of quality/detail and certainly not finished the same way. Looking at the F82 back box, it is possibly the same supplier.

This thread makes me wonder if I should worry about my F90's titanium exhaust in future.
