Noticeable weight reduction thanks to intelligent lightweight design
BMW M GmbH has reduced the weight of the special edition by roughly 30 kilograms compared to the standard M2. This has been achieved through modifications including judicious use of lightweight design techniques. For example, the BMW M2 CS features a multitude of exterior and interior components made from carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). And it will be fitted as standard with forged M light-alloy wheels. As a result, the CS will be the lightest BMW M2 so far in the current generation.

Upgraded six-cylinder in-line engine with significant increase in power output and torque
For the BMW M2 CS, BMW M GmbH has opted for an upgraded version of the 3.0-litre, six-cylinder in-line engine found in the standard M2. This intensifies the performance experience in the special edition, particularly in highly dynamic driving situations. It further sharpens the engine’s unmistakable power characteristics and perfectly accentuates the linear power delivery – sustained into the higher reaches of the rev range – familiar from M models. Compared to the BMW M2 with standard eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, maximum torque has been raised by 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) to 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) and is available across a broad rev range – between 2,650 and 5,730 rpm. The engine produces its maximum power output of 390 kW/530 hp at 6,250 rpm, with the engine speed topping out at 7,200 rpm. In order to allow extremely rapid reactions to the driver’s requests for acceleration and to make the improved performance characteristics of the engine a particularly intense experience, the accelerator mapping and response have been optimised in all.

30kgs doesn't seem very significant...gone are the days where the e46 CSL came out 110kgs lighter than the standard model.

My 2c, there is absolutely nothing special about this car vs CS/CSLs of the past. It is a marketing exercise. They managed to save more weight while adding whole AWD systems to other cars. That is also within margin of error depending on options you then start adding back in when speccing. Reading between the lines, talking about the weight loss being due to construction techniques and materials also suggests not a lot of that very small loss is attributed to unsprung mass which would have had a far greater dynamic effect. It's basically the wheels and you could already option forged wheels for the regular car as well as CCBs. It appears that the target audience and his passenger going on Ozempic for a month or two may have a greater impact.

Same with the competition pack cars... fewer and fewer hardware changes between the generations to the degree that it is just the 'base' now. Used to be virtually impossible to retrofit bits for ZCP equipped cars.

But hey, when the whole internet makes excuses for that ever-worsening design on the basis of it being limited/special/highly engineered and they can charge double for it, then I suppose let them? Paid influencers will still talk about how it is a totally different car and worth every penny... and quality issues will be 'because racecar' and 'because light'...

But hey, if you can profit off stupidity then why not?

Only if you had no aircon and no radio.

You forgot to mention how many Hundreds of thousands of Rands they are going to charge . That will lighten your pocket and bank balance by a significant amount for that 30kg weight saving.

If anything the "weight" saving is nothing to brag about. How will all of these changes translate on the road and will how much better will the CS be at Nürburgring ? Time to beat 7:38.71 and there is a second entry by an unknown driver with a faster time for the standard G87 as well.

Not that NBR times matter for most of the the upcoming CS owners! Rather a matter of bragging rights if any are to be had from the this new car. Time will tell.

The current standard G87 remains a bargain to drive in its segment. Quick with a touch of hooliganism, a dying breed thankfully BMW tried to keep it alive for that much longer! EV things are on the Horizon, can't imagine what that will translate for the passionate BMW Folk or Old School Petrol Heads!

Edit* BMW needs to give the G87 one final send off with some M-X -Drive Magic before its time for the next M2

Yup 30kg saving on a car that's roughly 1700kg is really nothing to shout about. Removing the cats from the downpipes and do a back box delete would yield roundabout the same weight-loss. Translates to less then 2% weight reduction.

Quickly watched the Carwow high level review on YouTube. Base price in the UK sans extras is £86,000 which translates roughly to just over R2mil at current ROE. Eish.

That design will never be handsome..it will forever be the Lego M2. That front is unforgiving..the Cs pricing will never make sense..the M4 Cs was a flop..I think they all flops tbh. It's still a nice car though..the G87 pricing is hovering around the 1.3m mark now..which is sensible in comparison to the competition..and the G82 is so much more expensive..so one can entertain the thought of the G87 with the screens..but the design language is too "bastardized" to consider this a flex car

I was firmly in the “I don’t like the G87” camp, but overtime it’s grown on me to the point where I now consider it a car that is muscular, striking, & very different to anything else on the road…it’s not the most beautiful BMW ever made, but it certainly has presence in the road… and for 1.3M it’s a performance bargain…what else could you choose at that price point that has that level of performance? I’d choose it every time over an RS3… The CS however seems to have been a half hearted attempt by BMW….I expected more at that price point…

Where is everyone seeing this for R1.3M? You're not the first to quote this number. It starts at nearly 20% more than that... STARTS.
