Hi Guys,
Finally got a chance to do a thread for both cars, starting off with the F30 since it’s likely the shorter thread of the two. As I mentioned in my first thread, I was initially looking for a 320d as a daily driver. I did come across a few for sale within my budget, however the specs and condition of these cars weren’t that great. Most of them were either high mileage close onto 200k or non-m sport with very minimal extras which makes a difference to me.
Then there was this extremely clean low mileage last of the 3.0 D4D Hilux’s that came up for sale, but being nearly a victim of hijackings in the past with my polo, especially considering the areas I go to, I decided to pass on this one. My friend at SMG gave me a shout that she had a 2018 320i M Shadow Edition come into stock as a trade in. At first I was too convinced on a 320i, especially since I’m an I6 guy and BMW hadn’t had the best of reputations when it came to their 4 cylinder motors, especially because of the N20. This one however being an LCI with all the extras I needed, a B48 and a 1 owner car from new, I decided to go have a look at it and test drive it. Safe to say I knew I wasn’t going home without it.
In terms of spec:
• Glacier Silver
• LCI
• M Shadow Edition
• Adaptive LED Headlights
• Harman Kardon Speakers
• Sports Auto with Paddles
• Extended Cluster
• 403M Wheels
• Sunroof
I had all the extras I needed, with the exception of the ProNav screen and the digital cluster, which isn’t much of a train smash.
I bought this car last year December and I’ve done just over 5000kms on it ever since. This is my daily driver and I have to admit, the B48 is an underrated motor and its quite impressive for a 4 cylinder. It reminds me of my B58 but with 2 cylinders less. Surprisingly, I average around 7-8 litres or so which isn’t bad at all, although BMW claim it can get around 5ish which I highly doubt anyone has seen yet. It would be interesting to see what this car is capable of with a tune, I’ve heard that this platform is pretty solid from a tuning perspective.
Since buying it, I’ve gone and added a few black bits from Jabsport to give it a bit more of an aggressive look which makes a difference. I’ve added a front lip (flaps only), black double slat grilles, and black m performance mirrors. I have already ordered a spoiler, front canards, a white v-brace, and black eyelids which should hopefully be fitted on this weekend. From an exterior point of view, I think the only things left would be the Side skirts with the black M performance decals, black badges and maybe a set of OEM 405M wheels which are really difficult to come by.
We have owned 2 F30’s, a sportline 320i N20, my dad’s M-Sport 335i (still owns it), and this one being the 3rd, its safe to say it’s a platform we love. I’ve driven many G20s before, and I can honestly say, the F30 to me feels more fun to drive in comparison despite all the new tech in the G20.
