Cape Town's mixed bag

If you move slightly faster than the rest of the traffic you're gonna get multiple hits on a "race". They like fckin gremlins just waiting to pounce on faster-moving traffic. I don't stay close to these guys coz they can't drive for shit, if I have the option to slow down and back out I do so (followed by Mr Tiet being super proud coz he just won a solo race).

And this is in a city that has the "ghost squad" in operation. FFS average IQ is definitely lower than the rest of the country

Ja, as far as I know Helshoogte is decent for letting your hair down a bit - haven't seen cameras in the twisty bits and frankly - doing that road at 90kph is tons of fun. And then it sounds like most people take the Malmesbury road for flat out speed, which sounds nice, but it's a single carriageway with dirt shoulders. If something goes wrong there at 180kph, it's going to go proper wrong and a traffic cop is the least of your worries then.
Yep you don't need to go at triple digit speeds on mountain roads to have fun. It also removes the chances of taking the short road down the mountain. That will probably hurt more than ones ego,

I am not claiming to never speed. For me so long as its safe to do so I would have a bit of spirited driving.
I had a very cool encounter last night. On my way home from Paarl just after Klapmuts I came across a Civic Vtec sounding sweet. He pulled off and the car screamed away. Roads were empty so I followed. On the straights he would first get away a bit but then I would quickly catch up. On the bends and uphill he stood no chance. We both knew about the camera just before the dual lane before Cloetesville. We stopped at robot just as you enter Stellies and gave a wave and each went on his own way. The guy definitely knew how to drive his car.

This used to be so common and the 'normal' way to enjoy your car when you were not at an event - then you tell the story to your mates who may or may not believe you. This has all but dried up in JHB - in the late 00s and part of the 2010s you could have some fun safely with literally nobody around to see (which was kind of the point).

Now everything must be recorded or in front of an audience and ever more crazy or else it doesn't get enough likes.

I don't think anyone is anti-enjoying your fast car. We are just anti-being-a-public-endangering-poes :ROFLMAO:

The Ghost Squad is just another comfort blanket for COCT with their own rules and regulations, if and when they wanna apply it.

Spin like a mofo but don't let me see you without plates, at the same time though you see a huge amount of guys driving without plates and nothing happens with them. Legal drag strip events followed by lekke road block after parties on your way out. R5k speed dial honeys so cash flow is never a problem. Smooth roads and corners with a 90% spawn rate of braindead npc's programmed to piss you off and the other 10% is split between GTA maniacs and the GS Popo Squad. BMW's being written off at a faster rate than the factory supplies them or "spinners" trying to battle gravity and the magnetic force of pavements.

PS. the above is not a vent, I'm just takin the piss towards this place ;)

It is great here though and I won't head back to Jozi, everything is forgotten on a nice sunset cruise with the wifey and kid.

True words bro. Now its all about posts and likes meanwhile its evidence than can get you locked up. Thinking of the guy who recorded himself on the N1 towards Limpopo. He was traced and arrested.

I just do some scenic mountain drives every now and again just to enjoy my car a bit more. Cape town is also crazy with the amount of cameras. I commute regularly between Somerset and Paarl and I use google maps every time cause I have a tendency not to pay attention and ended up getting a bunch of those stupid over 10km/h fines.
Stellenbosch traffic cops are the worst with their infernal speed cameras. The R44, Annandale Rd, Baden Powell and Kuilsriver Rd are all vrot with their hidden cameras. You get to know the usual spots where they are placed but sometimes they are very sneaky.

Yep those are possibly the worst areas to speed in. I found using the limit function helps.

I love it when these moments happen and I'll be honest, it happens quite often here in Brackenfell. Mostly with the Honda boys though. I only had one small run with an M340i heading up Protea Road, saw him coming strong from behind and slowed down in order to line up at the stop, a Getz pulled into his lane and I stayed next to him since the Getz turned into one of the houses basically setting up a roll. We both started pulling the moment the road cleared up and I ran him by around 2ish car lengths before I had to hit the brakes for the next stop, tried waiting for him to have a quick chat but traffic did not allow it, we got a quick smile and thumbs up though before I turned off left. I thought it was @70007 but then saw that he never had black kidneys and black rims.

Whenever I do get decent cars wanting to have some fun the wifey is in the car... Then I can't join in :ROFLMAO:

My dad is known for a bit of a short fuse (it has improved as he's aged). But I found this story hilarious.

He has a 2023 M240i which he almost never drives. But he takes it to their holiday home every now and again for the weekend to give it some miles. Their house is a pain in the arse to get out of with traffic in front of it, so as he's reversing out and checking for traffic the gate closes and hits his car. He gets out and in his fury just sees what he thinks is two protrusions out of his bumper, loses his sh*t and speeds off at 160kph through a traffic light - straight to court he thinks.

Comes back home and sees his license plate lying in front of his driveway - the gate had just clipped the plate off - no damage. And...no plate for the traffic camera to have caught :ROFLMAO: So at the same time he felt like a poephol for acting like he did, but also saw the serendipity of the situation. He's usually very responsible so I think he deserved this little lesson with a free pass included.

Ja, wasn't me, I would have remembered if I lost by 2 car lengths 😅

Here we just seem to have more of these tools doing stupid things all over and more often while recording and posting it. I agree though that is not the complete Cape Town scene.

This was BMWFanatics GP Carfinated V2 that we heldd this past weekend.

Good turnout, not crazy unmanageable numbers. No revving, no spinning, No loud music.

GP still rocking events and doing our best to stay clear of the K@K that most other "Clubs" are hosting.

We just here to appreciate the scene the way we always have. What a spread of cars...from 325is to G82s...alles was there!

Can you post up more pics of the other cars that were at the event?
