Hi👋

I've been searching for a BMW to fill the void after purchasing my E39 M5, while the M5 is restored to its former glory: https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/threads/my2000-e39-m5-alpine-white-restoration-journey.100308/

My search included E46 330i/330D Msports, E34 Msports, E39 530i/530D/540i's, and more recently E90/92 & E82 x35i's.

Today the opportunity came up to purchase a clean E39 540i Manual...and a deal was struck! 👌
I had been in touch with the owner for around 6 months and went to go finally look at the car today and make a decision, the bug bit and the rest in now history.

Having owned one before, and loving it, owning and driving other E39's over the years, it wasn't a difficult decision. I personally just love E39's and that era of BMW's over the newer/more current offerings.

Here are the details:

MY2000
E39 540i 6 Speed Manual
M62B44TU
Glacier Green Metallic
Grey Interior
Wood Trim
OEM Style 32 Staggered wheels

257 000kms

Very original, with a few small changes:
FL Xenon Headlights
FL Clear Tail Lights
Exhaust Back Box delete (slightly louder, still very smooth sounding and no drone)

Good service history and recently had the timing chain and guides replaced 🙏

These are only the pics for the PO's advert, but will have to do for now:IMG_5844.JPGIMG_5845.JPGIMG_5846.JPGIMG_5847.JPGIMG_5848.JPG

Congratulations on your new car man, great to see you saving not one but two manual e39s. From your M5 thread I can tell these two e39s are finally in good hands. Keen on seeing the restoration and updates.(y)

Damn what a beauty. I have been looking for one of those for a long while now but haven't found one I'm willing to spend time on. Great find and certainly will be with your while!

Congrats! So jealous. Please give me first option should you decide to sell.
Haha, thanks!
The owner I bought from already made me promise first option for him to buy back, so you will have to be second in line! 😬 :D

Collected the car today, in Camps Bay, which was perfect, because the drive back along the coast and Hout Bay was:love::love::love::love:👌
In love, one of the best drives I've had in a very long time.

The whole drive back, in my head I was like:
"are you a sports car, or a luxury sedan", "you sound like an exotic, but you are so comfortable and smooth", "wow your gearing is long, but at the same time your engine provides great acceleration", "are you heavy or are you light, either way you handle like on rails, dancing", "do your require any changes, or are you perfect as is".

It was so nostalgic, reminiscing back to my old 540i/6. It just felt right, and made me think, "how could I have lived so many years without one of these in my life again".
Maybe it sounds like I'm infatuated and blowing this out of proportion, but to me these cars are the least compromised, have everything you need, cars.

I'm really loving it👏

To sum it all up:
They just don't make 'em like they used to👌

E39 Mafia FTW!

So glad this car went to you and continues to be in good hands! Congrats and many happy and safe miles. I had the pleasure of driving this car down to CT from JHB; let me just say I made good progress...but did discover that the fuel guage doesnt read accurately and 1/4 is actually empty :ROFLMAO:

Have to agree with you, an E39 540i manual is the most uncompromised car out there. The only negative could maybe be that it is a little low, so one needs to watch for steep driveways etc
