Good day everyone,

After a long search i have finally purchased a 2016 BMW 320D auto with 160 000km. The car does have a full service history and almost all except two have been with BMW whilst the other 2 where with RMI workshops. I have read through the forums and found the 320D's with a B47 engine seem to be known for there reliability.

I have a few questions however mainly regarding preventative maintenance at the mileage my car is on.
1. Should i take the car in for its ZF gearbox oil change? I am just confused with why BMW does not include it part of their maintenance? If the car was serviced at BMW do they not perform some preventative maintenance?
2. What other preventative maintenance should i expect to do at this mileage from the experiences you guys have had?

Looking forward to engaging more with all the fanatics now that i own a BMW!

Thanks again!

Hi there and Congrats!
You could not have made a better choice. Im sure you are enjoying that effortless drive and amazing fuel consumption.

1 -Definitely take your car to ZF. The gearbox is biggest potential failure you could have. This will ensure you peace of mind, as well the gear changes will be smoother. I suppose They did not want to take that huge expense amongst themselves? or perhaps ZF could garantee the lifespan that matched that of BMW's Motorplan of 5 years/100 000km. But Were hoping there afetr to have the business once out of plan.

2 - Suspension related items such as bushes etc. Im not sure if on the B47 the v belt and pulley is still of concern?
Your Cat will definatly be ready to be removed at that mileage. You will benefit from improved turbo spool and a drop in fuel consumption.

Thank you FILV, for all the info. Much appreciated.
I will definitely get in touch with the closest ZF service center close by to me in DBN to get it checked out.
Will keep the removal of the CAT in mind also to be done in the near future. When removing the CAT does the DP then replace the need of having a CAT?

A downpipe replaces the cat. If you keep your cat you can get money back for from a cat recycling place, although most exhaust shops tend to keep them and work it into their price.

Thanks everyone for the comments !

Looking to try and get the ZF gearbox oil change done soon. I am struggling to locate the ZF authorized service centers in Durban/KZN. I read in one of the forums that Ricardo has relocated and no longer in SA. I was also told Glaziertech is authorized aswell. Could anyone help with who i can contact? In Durban KZN or surrounding areas.

There are a few options in KZN:

- Ballito Auto Fix
- XR8 Sea Cow Lake
- Glacier Tech
- Legend Autoworx

I have a few friends that used Ballito Auto Fix and were happy with the service.
