Good evening, I hope you well.
Anyone out there able to give some look advise.
I think of changing my wife’s GLC 43 for the X3 M40i.
Is there anyone who can tell me what to look out for and if this is a good swop?
Hi,
What are the requirements of the wife/family and what issues were there with the GLC43 that prompted the change of heart?
The GLC43 is a fantastic car in its own right.
If you need a long distance BMW vehicle, then an X3 30d or M40d may be better suited. If you have a large family, then an X5 may be better.
From what I know, the X3 M40i came in 2 flavours - initially in 265kw (until Sep 2021) and then bumped up to 285kw (Sep 2021 onwards). The LCI (facelift) came in from late 2021/early 2022, but there were some pre-LCI models in late 2021 that came with the 285kw motor. You will need to run the VIN to check the correct specs.
Personally, I would look for an X3 M40d. These will be highly sought after.
Dealing with Mercedes is a nightmare and i'm not saying this as a BMW 'fanboy'. Getting parts can take months, their motorplan policy has changed for instance there's a limit in number of things like brake pads that can be replaced under plan. The problem with the few Mercs worth buying is actually having to deal with Mercedes... Having claimed for MANY things under motorplan and similar things for my BMWs, it almost feels like you're a criminal and they are forensically investigating the debris from flight MH370 while you sit without a car for a week to replace something. Meanwhile at BMW they advise you the part may only arrive in the morning but the car will be done by 12 the next day...
I would hope they treat actual AMG customers better (@DavidV not sure what your experience has been like on this front), but that is enough reason for us not to buy Mercedes again.
On the actual question I think an LCI M40i or M40d (better idea I think) will be a good idea.
One thing to look out for is the adaptive suspension option, especially if you go larger than 19” wheels. Mine had 21” wheels and the ride was still very comfortable with the adaptive suspension. I read on forums that the ride with the larger wheels without adaptive suspension models can become unpleasant especially on uneven or bad road surfaces.

IMO the analog cluster looks better than the silly digital dash without the needles. I'm sure others will agree as well.I must add, the pre LCI M40i’s came well specced as standard, I’m not too familiar with the LCI models’ std specs.
I would also say if you go pre LCI then look for 2020 onwards models, they have the nicer idrive 7 instead of the older idrive 6 on pre 2020 models. With idrive 7 you get the much nicer full digital dash instead of the analog look dash that came with idrive 6. (If I remember correctly now)

Are they really evenly matched though performance-wise? I remember beating a GLC 43 AMG in a F30 330d, I can't imagine doing the same to an M40i.Hi bud

Personally don't see the point in changing as both cars seem so evenly matched. If you were going X3 M then that would be worth it!
Dare I say this on a BMW forum but I think the 43 sounds better than a 40i stock for stock.![]()

I haven't had a GLC 43. But did test drive one as was considering it. And the X3 is just on another level IMO. Was a merc fan boy and was disappointed by mercs interior quality compared to the X3. Also the M40 just destroys the GLC in terms of how it pits down power.Congratulations.
How does it compare to the GLC43?
