Hey everyone,
I want to take a moment to simply share my thoughts and experience with Xcede here in Cape Town.
A little background for those who do not know:
Rewind a few months back here on the forum to a time where I was in the market to get software done on my car, after some research, I ended up with Xcede and Wulf as an option and things played out with me going to Wulf after I felt at that time that Xcede dropped the ball on communication. I can honestly say today that I made the wrong choice, don't get me wrong here, Wulf did what they had to do regarding software and giving the car the power it needed but what I was looking for from the start was a tuner brotherhood, people who can guide you in the right direction and most importantly people who are there for you and not your money.
How it played out:
So to keep it short, my car randomly started getting a whine / squeal from the engine bay, after checking out a few things in my mind I came to the conclusion that it was the Idler pulley making the noise but I could never say for sure since it would only make it when moving into D or R and that made troubleshooting a pain in the pooper for me alone. Without hesitating I got in touch with Xcede and then got Ashley's number here in Cape Town.
I explained the problem to him and he arranged for my car to come in the next day and he'll get the parts in the meantime. The following day I stopped there around 9'ish and started having a chat with Ashley (This guy is a legend in all ways possible). I immediately felt at home and comfortable, he then took me for a spin in his 135i which has the same base foundation as me to give me an idea as to where they can guide me not only for CRAZY power but also for reliability and that is something everyone needs to hear.
We got back and they got the hood open while I waited on a Uber, it only took them a few minutes to point out that it's not my Idler pulley or tensioner creating the noise and I can guarantee you any other garage would have simply replaced the tensioner, belt and Idler pulley because that's what the client asked for. My Uber stopped there and Ashley said that they would diagnose the problem and he'll keep me updated and that was exactly what he did, not only on call but Whatsapp videos too.
Around lunchtime, he updated me that the valve cover is being replaced and that he will feedback after fitting and testing, something I forgot to test on the N55 by removing the oil cap to see if the sound dies out when open. Got back to me again with a video showing me that "she's happy" and the noise is gone.
Travelled back to Xcede with my son and Ashley was so kind to my kid even who is a HUGE car enthusiast just like me. Ashley had a chat with me after he did a Dragy run with my car with some recommendations on work that we could do soon. We could actually have an open and straight conversation here without any discomfort when I mentioned that the Dragy run figures seemed odd, it legit gave stock figures but it never bothered me too much. We made some near-future plans to get the gearbox stage 3 done (I thought it was but with great guidance, Ashley schooled me on this), the 2-step plugs since I'm running Bosch (don't judge, it came with the car) and a custom map with Xcede this time.
On my way home we hit HUGE traffic and something stood out on the car, my start-stop was coded out and all of a sudden it started working again which was super weird. We sat in the traffic for 2 hours and I was kind of grateful for it kicking back in for some random reason. In all this time I never had the chance to actually plant the car a little. When we got home I gave Ashley a call and mentioned this to him, he said it's weird since they never did anything that should cause this but also told me that when I'm in the area I should pop in real quick and he'll code it back in for me at no cost. Later in the evening, I got the chance to take the car out and I could instantly tell that something was different, nothing wrong with the car, it just felt like my tune was gone and it started making sense with the Dragy runs he did. I realized it was after-hours and I was not going to be that customer who phones an oke at that time crying about a little power loss, the car was running fine, it was just a stock feeling. I dropped him a message to explain it as best I could (Even though it made no sense since I know they could have not done anything that would lose the map). Ashley phoned me right back and we talked through what I was experiencing, giving me his word that they did not do anything that should have caused this and I know he was telling the truth, it's not the first car I had software done on. He gave me great advice to get in touch with Wulf to just check the data to ensure the map was still there and to please keep him updated. This all left both of us dumbstruck since it was simply not making sense.
This morning, I dropped the kid off at school and planned on heading over to Wulf when we got in the drop-and-go school line traffic and there it was, in ECO mode the bloody start stop disable sign came up like it should. After getting the kid dropped off I knew for a fact that I simply had to get into Sport+ and see if she woke up again. I have this "my road" leading back home, a quiet stretch allowing you to open the car a little without causing danger to others and there it was! Ass sliding out not getting any traction and a cloud of smoke chased me! Got back to Ashley to update him the moment I stopped at home while letting the car cool off.
Regarding this haunting of events, anyone who can possibly think of why this happened please shed some light cause we can not make sense of it. Around the internet, I got a few posts mentioning similar stuff and that the car should "re-learn" the map after the battery was disconnected.
Now, to get back on topic. Xcede Performance Cape Town, if you guys ever need work done and a brotherhood, don't do what I did, get in touch with Ashley, if the guy is busy try phoning later, I don't have words to describe how great their level of service and feedback is.
I can say for a fact though that Xcede will be seeing me a lot once the wedding is over and that Ashley is my go-to guy now!
Keep up the good work guys!
