Motor plan extension

Hey all,

So I'm off to JHB tomorrow to hopefully purchase an 2019 M5 comp for what seems like a steal.

I wanted to extend the plan by another 2 years (max 7) before purchase, however the seller called me an hour ago and told me we can't extend yet as it's not close to the expiry which is next year September 2024.

If I extend by mileage I'm told I can do that at any point. I prefer to extend by time to the max 7 years as there is no way I'll do more than 20k kms in the 2 next years.

I'm just fact checking here as I'm feeling a little nervous taking the car before I confirm the facts about the extension.

Is this true that time extensions can only be done close to expiry?

Unsure about that as I've bought cars, granted from BMW directly, and they have done the extension for me for 1+ years before the plan was about to expire, about 3 months in to the first year.

Best is to call BMW tomorrow AM, prior to delivery, and get the extension confirmed and concluded.

Nonsense - this hasn't been the case for years. I just extended mine by a year, a full year before it was due. The owner can do it online even.

Check and double check since there are several cases of people buying a car with plan only for them to discover repairs or mods after the fact at their first service leading to the plan being suspended or cancelled when they try to have it put onto their names.

Please also do an independent VIN check to see if the car was in an accident

Basically this. My motorplan expires in 10 months but can extend now. Very very sketchy

So how did this story end? Previous owner who didn't try renewing online, or misinformed by the old system (like me)? Assume it was all sorted as yuu didn't change your mind.

do yourself a favour and ask the seller to take the car to BMW for a quality check, it will cost but will give you peace of mind. I did that before i purchased my M car privately and ask BMW to transfer the plan onto my name at the time of purchase.

I extended my motorplan for R23k, I have already claimed R12k from the maintenance plan, this works out better for me , plus other benefits road side assistance etc, next year I will do the bmw warranty and oil packages.

My motorplan expires end of the year. Was at BMW in June for a service. Enquired with reception about extending my motorplan and was informed to come in closer to end of year to discuss. So doesn’t seem everyone follows the same protocol.

Hi

You can visit mybmw app or customer.bmw.co.za .

My dashboard with your vehicles details it gives you an option to extend motorplan by using credit card.

I got a notification to extend at least 6 months before expire date.
