It's really not that bad on the open road. I had a trip to Mossel Bay a few weeks ago (around 400km one-way). On the way there I got just over 12 and on the way back just below 12. The road was very busy though, only now and again that I had the opportunity to stretch its legs, but on the other hand did a lot of foot down overtakes (because it's addictiveThe best of 13.2 is driving below the speed limit with aircon off! These engines love a petrol station. The 850 is worse than the 550 (but that may be because I drive it in a more fun way than the 550 🙈 )
Others have said it, you buy the guzzler, you have to feed it.I reckon on the open road the 850 will be not too bad. I did a return trip to Pretoria last week, about 140km's round trip, traffic there was bad because of a bike accident between William Nicol and Rivonia Road, but once out of the snarl it was idling, even at about 140kph. Coming back I was a lot more sedate (cos I wasn't missing a tee off time lol), and I can imagine that on a long trip (this was the longest I've been on with the 850 believe it or not) it would be relatively frugal. I don't think 12'ish is too bad for the X5 considering the size and weight.
I do drive the 850 in a more "spirited" manner 😁, the exhaust note is intoxicating in Sport+.
😅 Ja, my 14 figure I'm currently sitting on is also because of Sport+ from Stellenbosch golf club back to my house, so that didn't help much, I think it was mid 12's before I left the clubI reckon on the open road the 850 will be not too bad. Yes, I agree 100%, I'm really not too concerned about fuel consumption, I knew full well what to expect. It's just interesting to me. If consumption was a concern for me I would have gotten an M50d, there were quite a few options available when I was looking, but I wanted to at least once in my life own a V8 and I might as well do it while I still have a company petrol card. 😅Others have said it, you buy the guzzler, you have to feed it.
The thing with these cars is that the power is always on tap, thats what youre paying for actually, its always there, and you will learn the point at which, if you depress the accelerator pedal, the car will GIVE you that power.
Having it always there costs money, even if you dont use it.
Think of it like owning a Supercar. The supercar can be driven like a suzuki, but it wants to be driven for what it is. It will rev higher than the Suzuki and it will downshift faster when you floor the brakes (when the fun gets too kak in your pants - vibe).
It is what it is, if you keep looking at the fuel consumption, youre going to be constantly dissapointed.
