So last night, i start up the Tractor and pull out the driveway with the purpose of going to the airport to fetch my wife and daughter. Reverse out the driveway, straighten up and pull off gently as it was raining. Windows misted up so i turned on the aircon and then the steering wheel is as tight as if the car is switched off. Switch aircon off, Power Steering is back. Then i get burning rubber smell. It pouring outside, so i make a gentle u-turn head back home to fetch the other car and complete my airport run.

Got back home, started her up took it for a drive, same story. This was just after midnight.

Got up this morning, took the car to Tune Tech and they diagnosed the Crankshaft/Vibration Damper Pulley + belts faulty. So shes sitting there for a couple days this week.

Weird part is, just last week, Tune Tech posted about this very Item on their FB page and i read up about it. Link: http://www.tunetech.co.za/2012/03/20/vibration-damper-or-crankshaft-damper/

Yeah, at least the fault is common and Tune Tech picked on it as soon as i mentioned the issue.

Car is being repaired at the moment so i should have her back this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Missing my car too much now..

Mileage ticked over 165 000km over the weekend.

guys, sorry to hijack your thread Arbee, but if this is a common fault, would it happen on a diesel car atleast 3 times within 50 000km?

your 330d is only having it now, right?

Glad its being sorted and was'nt a major costly repair. U should look into a aftermarket possible warranty . The best at the moment is from Hollard (Motor Extender)and there are different packages as well. The good thing there is you dont pay for the package upfront like most warranties but u pay every month. The top package even covers two services(A certain amount) a year as well.Check it out

Thanks, not a cheap repair @ 11k. But luckily my warranty is covering most of it. I will pay in around R2k.

They replacing the Damper, belts and a few other little bits.

Thanks...

I have not noticed any difference in engine sound with the Software or DP.

According to Tune Tech (http://www.tunetech.co.za/2012/03/20/vibration-damper-or-crankshaft-damper/) it would occur on the E90 between 100k km and 140k km. Mine is on 165 000 now so i guess its about time.

Well I must say reliabaility is perfect on your car and thanks for the info bud. 165 000km is a lot trouble free motoring without any breakage

Got my car back from Tune Tech this morning and its just a whole lot better than it was and it wasnt bad at all... LOL

They replaced the EGR Thermostat also, i had noticed a slight leak but cleaned it and waited for it to come up again, i guess they picked up on it while doing their checks.

They also replaced the Vibration Damper, which is a common item and according to their article, it usually de-laminates on the E90's between 100k km and 140k km. They did say that mine was not replaced previously had lasted the longest they had come across, my car is on 165k km. While chatting to them, i realized that the car has had a vibration which i didnt really pay much attention to as i assumed it was because of the Diesel Motor.

They also replaced a couple of belts as preventative maintenance.

Shaun, from Tune Tech who was a BMW Master Technician had only good things to say about my car and me knowing his experience, i was pretty chaffed about that. Even his Receptionist said she loves the way my car looked and queried the Red Angel eyes...

Im a happy chappy again, my car is 100% mechanically and in the next couple weeks she should be 100% on the exterior also as she is going in for a respray (Front End). Cannot wait...

Went through my entire thread in efforts to clean it up and just make sure i have updated it each and every time i modded. Just made me realize how fast i have modded...

So, the best update/mod for me personally was this:

Awesome update:

Let me start off by saying, XCEDE FTMFW... Not just the software but Sherwin in particular!

I attended the Project Shift/Dent Doctor/BMWFanatics Dyno Day at WRC and up until i saw Sherwin i had no plans of loading a file onto my car.

Anyways, Sherwin convinced me (didnt need to say much) and before my first (stock) run he read the car and the car was Dyno'd @ 130kw and 443nm which i think was pretty low but maybe my car is the 160kw IIRC model.
On the dyno: Before SW run
Johannesburg-20120303-00074.jpg

Car came off the Dyno and Sherwin got busy loading the file he tweaked, afaik he just upped the boost by .2 bar. Sherwin took it for a drive around the parking lot and put it back into the line for the "after" dyno...
Waiting in line - Thanks Andz-GP for the ice (Proven trick amongst most tuners, i saw a couple guys laugh at this)
Johannesburg-20120303-00075.jpg

On the Dyno for the After Run:
Johannesburg-20120303-00076.jpg

I checked the time the pics where taken and it was 1 minute short of being exactly an hour apart from the Before and After Dyno.

Car made 177kw 566nm after Xcede was loaded. :inlove::inlove:

Big ups to Sherwin, this was not planned but well executed.

Best part, the car feels so smooth on the road and puts the power down well. Sherwin will tell you about the launch on it.

I love my car even more... :inlove::inlove:

Thanks again to Sherwin and Xcede!!!:thumbs::thumbs:

Thanks
Arbee

PS: I will upload the Dyno Sheets as soon as my printers are back online. (Busy re-carpeting office)
