Tire Choices for F82 M4

Currently on a set of Conti Sport Contact 6, but need to change my rear tires, as they are close on 2mm worth of life.

Thinking of the Sport Contact 7's for the rear and keeping the SC6's up front (5mm)...or a set of Semi's...if I could find some in Jhb.

Apart from Michelin, what are the other trusted BMW M tires ?

For me personally I'd go michellin ps4s. They arent cheap but pretty much the best in my opinion.

Toyo also has some good semis the r888s

PS4S or if you don’t do much mileage Cup 2

There has been mention of Potenza Sports which are on par but I don’t have personal experience.

My last experiences with continental have not been good, though I do have sport contact 5 on the merc, which has more to do with the wear characteristics and wanting to keep to the same tyres on the whole car.

Pirelli and Dunlop road tyres I’ve written off completely.

R888Rs if you like a headache but also check the manufacture date. Not sure if it’s the sizes I was after or just Mintys stock rotation but some are very old… Everyone will tell you the tyre doesn’t age on the shelf and if stored correctly but track insurance won’t cover you if the manufacture date is out of range regardless of whether they were fitted 1 hour prior. Goes for any tyre, but these specifically in SA. These are more track tyres you can use on the road with compromises geared that way.

If you want a road tyre you can use for the track look at the Cup 2 IMHO. I had this on my f10 and have it on my 4C. Ran the same time on a short-ish course (Zwartkops drive in side) as an Exige on R888s and better on an actual circuit. have done many track days (probably 6, 2 Gerotek days, 2 time attacks) and breakfast runs in it but also the Alfa is very light so your mileage will literally vary lol. Though I have plenty of tread left I can feel they are past their prime now at about 3 years old. Done about 10000km on them. With the f10 I think I got about 12000km out of the rears where it was basically the opposite: heavy car, loads of power and it physically wore out as opposed to the compound degrading/cycling out. M4 will probably be somewhere in between.

Depends what you want to use the car for, if you're going to be doing trackdays then go with Cup2's or Potenza RE71RS, if you're going to do chilled driving and maybe a trackday or two, PS4S will be perfect.

Also have a look at the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport, had them on my M3 and they were stupidly sticky, somewhere between a PS4S and a Cup2.

Im using Bridgestone Potenza Sports at the moment , dirt cheap vs Ps4 and even GY eagles . Really surprised with them , had Conti 6's before them and GY before that . Its a really good tyre . Paid under 3k each for 235/19s so was a no brainer for me
