Hallelujah! A new BMW that I like!!!

(So no doubt the cost will be astronomical for what it is like with the M8 LOL)

I like the look of it except the rear -- just too much going on there! The taillights seem to be angled the wrong way.
The side mirrors also look too big and angled the wrong way too.

I actually really like the look.... Seen some surprising comments on social media. I think people are too obsessed with whether they're supposed to like something or not that they've lost their personal sense of taste.

CLA45 is already over 1.6M... I would guess it would not be far off the M3/4
This is absurd... I can't be the only one who thinks so. I've seen far fewer of the new CLA45 and A45 than I did of the old (which was expensive, but not ridiculous).

How is this different from the “new 220” series thatcher seen on the road that the rear looks like a Kia?
It seems that kia employed ex BM designers and BM ex kia designers

Beyond R1M even the band aids can't help you 'afford' a car - you need a huge salary in absolute terms... If you CAN afford such a car, why on earth would you buy a CLA or A45... especially when you can buy a very lightly used AMG GT S which is an amazing car for the same or less?

You can say the same for M5s and M8s as well - far fewer people seem to have bought them this generation (if you have spoken to a BMW sales person recently the latest line is that it is a great thing since it will 'protect the value' though the owners might disagree)

There are more special cars out there and different experiences/aspects to a car than a 0-100 time.

When I went to Merc to view a CLA45S and flat out asked the salesperson "why would I buy this car and save R200-R300k over a Porsche Cayman GT4?"

His answer:
"This produces more power from a 4cyl engine".

My dog, your customers don't care that your specific horsepower is high. LMAO, imagine being out there and saying "thank god I didn't get the 6-cyl car with 20hp less!".

But in general yes, these "elite" german brand special cars have all gotten far too expensive. Once you cross R1m you're into big money in absolute terms, a big balloon can't do anything for you when you're talking a 1.6m car with options. And as you say the used car market has a lot of compelling cars for that sort of money, I mean a 991.1 GT3 is in the region of R2m now, would you really save the money and buy a CLA that will likely lose half it's value in a decade (if not even more) over the Porker?

As you say, whereas F10 M5s are relatively common, the newer ones aren't. Not everyone has R2-3m to spend on a family car. And if they do you're probably rich enough to spend R10m on a family car, in which case you'll buy a bentayga or whatever other rubbish SUV the top end makers make (urus/cayenne etc.). I think manufacturers must think very carefully about this transitional period between the last few ICE cars and the electric generation coming up. At the rate they're going they gonna lose the next generation of customers as there's nothing "attainable" and desirable...

Your are right, probably the reason why there are so many Porches on the road these days.

Yep. Consider how rare a 993 is or even a 997. These days if anyone has some money they just buy a Porsche seeing as it's the same price as a BMW anyway!

The 4 door Gran Coupe (F44)?

This coupe is back to RWD and the 8 speed ZF gearbox, I believe the Gran Coupe had a different gearbox? Or perhaps only in some other countries.

Engine specs on the Gran Coupe starts with a 218i and goes upto the 235i.
This new coupe (G42), so far seems to have a 220i and 220d, 230i, 240i and the 240i may come with xDrive only (see what happens for the SA market I guess).

I really like this new G42. BIG difference between the M-sport and M performance, I assume the M performance will only be available on the line topping 240i model?
Faaaar better looking compared to the F44.
