You have to reduce the speed limit to 27.5km/h before a partial head on collision is almost guaranteed to be survivable. Remember cars are tested by being driven into a block at 55km/h.

Most dual carriageway roads you have a closing speed of 240km/h

:dropjaw: explain...

Well, two vehicles colliding as a head on accident (presumed to be doing 120kph) has a combined speed of 240kph.

Nope they don't... The impact will still be equivalent to an accident happening at 120km/h

Semantics Cois. And if you check my post I said the cars have a closing speed of 240km/h. That doesn't mean that the impact would be that speed because in most instances there is some braking involved.

Notwithstanding the article you posted, I would also add the the resolution of forces in a partial head-on collision (the most common head-on) are such that there is a significant dissipation of those forces outwards in a spinning motion. So the effect of the impact would never be the same as hitting a solid wall flat head on at 240km/h:coolShake:

Either way, an accident at a speed in excess of around 70km/h results in a rapidly diminishing chance of survival.

The goal should be the reduction of the likelihood of these accidents in the first place.

...can we get back to the roadblocks now...

Yeah. ...The roadblocks don't affect me in Durban:crazylaugh:

But at the core of the roadblocks is a far more sinister reality. ..its about MONEY not road safety. And the most sinister part is the admission by the larger metros that the money generated by fines forms a significant part of their budget. So in reality the fines amount to a TAX.

Sick:hammerhead:

Also the amount of money issued on a speeding fine is insane. I got two fines. Same spot doing the same speed and same day. The road used to be 70kph now its 60 and i didnt notice the sign. R1200 later. For me thats a huge chunk of change and they dont except lay bye at the traffic department

It was two fines. R600 each. Both times I was doing 76kph in a 60 zone. If you drove that road 60 is way too slow. I can't even use 6th gear. Peak traffic it gets busy but then people drive according to the traffic. Slow.

The reason why I abuse my cruise control

Anything under 80km/h I get up to speed limit and cruise control the crap out of it. I cant drive at that speed and imagine, here in the west we have a street where you only allowed 50km/h, try that

I will freely submit to a roadblock, as I have nothing to hide, and am a law abiding citizen

but the corruption will make them conjour up something in an effort to extort a hamburger and coke out of me, and the more I resist to give in to their wishes to settle their hunger, the harder they will attempt to make itdifficult for me, until either I get wrongfully arrested or they get their food

This right here! That's the problem!
