Hello Fanatics.

Been a minute since cracking out a thread on a new build. With the 335 being sold in April 2021, the hunt began for an X3 to get the family into. The 120d was also to be sold once an x3 was found so I had to plan accordingly.

Extras I wanted :
• Xenons
• Reverse cam
• Panoramic roof
• M sport
• Under 100k kilos

I was fine with pre lci or lci and a 20d within budget and started looking around. Spoke to various 20d owners who told me drive a 20d and then make decision, as it's not the same type of power I was used to in the 120d due to size and weight.

A few weeks later I got the oppotunity to drive a 20d and immediately made up my mind to find a 30d instead.

Found one in PTA and despite confirming availability of the car multiple times with dealer over a 4 day period including the Friday I was en route to see the vechile, they dropped the badly.

Upon arrival we were made to wait and driven to their washbay, then panel shop then back to dealer and finally told the car was sold. Needless to say I was absolutely fuming, not because it was sold, but moreso because I drove the 130kilos and the swines couldn't even be frank and say it was sold despite me calling that morning to confirm its available.

However I carried on searching and stumbled upon one on Gumtree which was removed the next day. Luckily I took a screen shot when I 1st seen it and was able to contact the seller.

The cost was way more then I anticipated, but the car from the pics had me wanting as it ticked way too many boxes to be ignored.

Did the relevant homework with regarding history of the vechile and it turned out I knew the 1st owners pretty well.

Wife told me immediately when I showed her a picture, irrespective of whatever else I see, she knows my head and heard is set on this specific one because of its spec and interior. She's knows all too damn well.

Went through and viewed the car, test drove it and fell in love with it. Came home again and did my mandorty prayers for guidance and discussion with my wife, and a week later we pulled the trigger and went to collect it.

Specs below:
  • 2017 30d
  • Space Grey
  • Saddle brown interior
  • Navigation
  • Xenons
  • M sport
  • Tow bar
  • 20" 310m rims
  • Extended cluster
  • Reverse cam
  • Electric tailgate
  • Panoramic roof
  • Paddle shifters
  • Harmon Kardon
  • Heated seats
  • 51k kilos
  • Plan till Nov 2022
Pleased to introduce our new family car after a very sad goodbye to both the 335 and 120d which served us extremely well.

Absolutely stunning. All things considered this is probably the best out there - excellent vehicles and with the 30d motor, it will pull strong and economically.

I love the x3!! Great buy and I agree with you the 20d is just too pap in comparison to the 30d.

I was looking at the 20d but went with a f20 instead. I just couldn't find a 30d at a good price.

Thanks and aameen gents to all the well wishes and prayers...

The weekend after delivery I decided to give the car a proper bath and see what I was dealing with in terms of paint work.

Steps followed were

  • PH neutral foam wash
  • Iron out on body work and wheel
  • Clay bar across whole body
  • Wheel arch cleaning
  • Interior and engine bay clean with plastic treatment
  • Auto finesse Triple to bring out some gloss

Got to try out some new products at the time from @Gav@GShift who is our forum advertiser and mad the products were great. The grids for the wash buckets are brilliant they move and shift around thus ensuring the dirt is trapped at the bottom. Wheel brush nice and soft yet strong enough to loosen the dirt and grims and tyre brush is nice and rigid with bristles not loosing their shape after usage. Would definitely recommend adding those items to your washing maintenance routines.

Removed a lot of bonded contamination from the paintwork a d wheels and the X finally started looking much better with a pleasant amount of gloss from the paint work.

Thanks for reading
