Interestingly just been reading CAR mag which had a shoot-out at Kyalami with various cars including the RS3 and the 1M for good measure. According to their test, basic results:
RS3 0-100km/h = 4.63 sec | 10.92 l/100 km
1M 0-100km/h = 5.10 sec | 11.52 l/100 km
So for TLGP the RS3 is slightly quicker off the line. But on the twisties was where they especially like the 1M. The RS3 was the more comfortable cruiser, but they did complain a bit about the dual clutch lagging a bit on upshifts. Haven't fully read through their reviews though, but for overall performance they liked the 1M - for day to day driving the RS3 seems a bit more practical. Also the 1M seemed to draw a lot more attention at the fuel stops than the RS3...
Against the 135i would be interesting, I think the RS3 would most likely have the edge here!

Only minor gripe I have with the RS3 is the narrower rear tyres, which make the rear wheels sit too much inside the fenders. Maybe a better rear rim offset would have solved this. I guess BM fans really love that staggered rim tyre combos, which come through on rear wheel drive BMs.
It does make sense as a day to day commuter, as that car can take 3 in the back easily.
Also, from what I've read on the net, there is talk that with some special hidden launch control setting, the car will launch to 100km/h in sub 4sec,
3.7sec. Not sure how true this is, but there some videos floating around.
