Its been a while since I have been active on the forum. There has been so much going on that its very difficult to find time to contribute. Lockdown and permanently working from home had me rethinking my vehicle ownership strategy. Then there was my immigration to Canada. Sold our properties, cars, and almost everything else but after our visa's where approved we made the decision not to leave just yet for a number of reasons that I wont go into detail here. As a result for the first time I owned non-BMW vehicles, cheapish run arounds to get us to the shops and back. Those vehicles not only made me appreciate the vehicles that came before but also realise that if im being honest I didn't need the fancy cars nor did it add any significant value to my life. I did miss the power
After a year of cheap and cheerful motoring we wanted a little more. My wife wanted something safer and more economical and end up in the current X3 20d. I wanted Everything. I toyed with getting an RS3, TTRS, Z4 or another M4. I was very close to acquiring a 1M and after discovering that it was accident damaged I pulled out. Then it was between a M2 comp and the M340i. Eventually I decided that what ever I was gettting it would need to have a B58 and very little motorplan left for obvious reasons. I then test drove every b58 option BMW made in the last 5 years. Everything from the M140i to the 740i and the x3 m40i. Then one that did it for me was the G30 540i. It was quite, comfortable, and soothing to dive ( I am getting old) It had enough tech for me to geek out and it has the powerplant that I needed to scratch the itch.
Pulled the trigger and picked up my car from BMW Kempton Park. Immediaetly got to work by adding a pull M performance kit and a few odds and ends.
From a power perspective I always tell myself im not going to go crazy, probably just a stage 2 setup...
Just over month after MP expired the car had an intake, charge pipe, inlet pipe, downpipe, meth injection, port injection, dorch s2 hpfp and a vargas gc+ tubro.
yup... I need help! The car now runs 100% eth or as close as possible I can get. Its still extremely quite even when in WOT but pulls like a freight train. There is only the custom tune that is needed now. I have been using MHD with decent results but there is room for optmisation. Daily, the car puts down 609whp and 661nm altough I rarely use it. Time will tell if I do an engine and gearbox build but for the near future at least, thats not happening. I'm pretty happy with the car in its current form. It is trully a Jekyll and Hyde situation. Am I better of with the 540i over the econo-box that I was driving? No. Its a tool that sometimes makes me smile. (thats likely how alot of people view me)
Pics of the car to follow shortly.
Thank you to Leon from Insane Racing, Ryan Pong from Nonos Motorsport, Dean from Geforce Perfromance. They all played a part in sourcing me the right mods, helping with the install and providing giudance.
