My BMW 530MLE

So here, eventually, are some ( actually quite a lot ) of pics of my baby, my 1976 BMW 530MLE. My first car, back in the eighties, was a 1975 BMW 520A, which led to a love affair with e12's. My dream back then was to own an MLE, and it took five years to find this one. Bought on 18 November 1993, I became her third owner. Over the years she has essentially been a garage queen, coming out on weekends for a blast, or attending the odd car show. I have kept her original, see my thread "1976 BMW 530MLE Official BMW Pics" for a visual comparison. She is serviced and maintained using only original BMW parts, and is thus quite a healthy old girl.

A bit of history. She is number 70 of 218 manufactured and homologated for local saloon car racing. The motor is a factory modified three litre straight six ( M30 ) that pushes out 147kw, gets to about 210km/h, and does 0-100 in 9.3 seconds. She has a limited slip diff and a 5 speed Getrag dogleg box. Most of the body is drilled for lightness, and she wears fibreglass front and rear spoilers to aid her aerodynamically. The interior has Scheel bucket seats, and a BMW Motorsport steering wheel. These cars are widely regarded to be the first production BMW M saloons, and the forerunner to the M5. She is one of only a few remaining in existence. Hope you guys enjoy :)

Thanks guys. Bought the car in pretty much that condition from a very fussy owner who ran his own business in the motor trade. There were some minor repairs required but, otherwise, all was good. As a result, the car has not been restored. Mechanically sound and no rust = great! The biggest worries were that he had "modernised" her with a different steering wheel, e28 handbrake, door cards, BMW stickers on all the switchgear, racing horns, fake leather bonnet lining, e28 sun visors, etc... . Fortunately, after tons of research, some great contacts, and lots of luck, I have managed to reverse that process, and get her back to her almost original state. Most of the paint is no longer original, although she has not had a full respray, she has required a "refresh" from time to time. Unfortunately, almost everytime one sends one's car for something to be repaired, it comes back with something new to be fixed. This just seems to be the nature of workmanship these days, very scary.

Everytime I see this car, I get that funny feeling in my gut. I still have the article from the owners circle magazine about this car :)
