My '13 S1000RR Resurrection Thread - Pic Heavy

I've been contemplating doing this for a while now, and finally decided to go through with it.

Here goes:

Feb 2016 I bought a wrecked S1000RR from SMD with the hopes of rebuilding it and eventually selling it to see if a profit could be turned. This was sort of a potential business idea of mine, but I quickly found that the prospect has been found by many before me and although I do believe it could work, I'm not about to quit my day job.

During the restoration process I decided to go a slightly different route with the bike. Instead of rebuilding it road legal to sell it I ended up converting it to a track bike. Allowing me to revert my RC8 R back to a street bike again. I just felt the RC8 R is something rare and special, something I wouldn't want to destroy on the track.

So not a hell of a back story but here are some pics of the process.

The day I picked her up

Damaged parts included. Fairings, top fairing bracket, exhaust, timing chain cover, crash bobbins, levers, handlebars, fuel tank and the sub-frame.

She looked so naked once stripped

I had the sub-frame straigtened. Ordered all the parts to get her back to street legal shape. The bike was essentially done when I decided to go the track bike route all that was outstanding was fitting the fairings.

I had even fitted a OEM exhaust, but removed that for an Akra shorty to use on the track.

To prep her for a track bike I stripped off all the street bits. Lights, exhaust, foot pegs, mirrors etc. And fitted new rearsets, 520 chain and sprocket conversion dropping two teeth on the front sprocket (15/45), engine case savers, clip on handlebars, shorty levers and a new GP shift linkage.

The final product:

The front mudguard I had was white so I added some blue and red.

Hey man awesome build. If you don't mind me asking what was the total cost to get it from A to where it is today ?

Thank you very much for the compliments gents.

The photographer at Red Star does a very good job, I have to admit these pictures were edited slightly to saturate the colours but not much else.
He is there basically every weekend Saturday and Sunday taking pics for the riders, for a fee obviously. He takes pics of everyone, then charges you if you would like to have them.

Total cost to date, if I deduct all the parts I bought to get the bike to road trim and only add the cost of the bike and the parts to get it track ready was probably in the region of R100k. I spent a bit much on the bike, but I was really hell bent on getting this one but so was another bidder and we chased each other.

So the thread continues. I had a nasty spill at Red Star a little over two weeks ago. I got a bit over zealous overtaking another rider round the outside of a corner. Turn 10, in the clockwise direction for those of you who know the track.

Considering location of my incident and the speed I was doing both myself and the bike got off lightly. Damage on the bike is mostly cosmetic, fairings, clip ons, rearsets, screen etc. Replacement parts are already on order and the bike has been stripped and is ready for the new parts to go on. Damages to me was a nasty roastie on my left elbow (Straight through my leathers), sprained my left ankle and picked up a light concussion.

As far as excuses for new kit go I couldn't think of a better reason than this accident. So I've since bought new leathers, boots, helmet and gloves. Hapiness!!! :smilebounce:

Also I've sold the RR to a good friend of mine, but promised I will fix it up for him.

In addition to all the new kit I've procured a new machine as well.
A 2013 ZX10R.

I will upload pics as soon as I get home tonight.

You are indeed lucky!

Turn 10 would be a pretty quick one!

Here are some pics of the bike and my gear after the crash.

Around turn 10, I'm normally in 3rd not far off the limiter when I exit.

Now the RR is stripped. I'm dropping it off today to have the subframe straightened and the dent in the fuel tank repaired as well.

Last, but definitely not least. Some pics of the newest addition to my stable :smilebounce: With my new helmet for added measure.

Just one HUGE thumbs up to you for doing your racing where it was intended, on the track, and not like so many idiots out there on the roads, endangering not only themselves, but everyone around them.

:thumbs: :bravo: :ty::praise:
