the spitronics will give you better fuel consumption than the stock ecu... this has been tested and proven on may occasions.

it will run the motor with ease and if it doesnt... get a proper tuner to install the system and set it up.

it depends on what motor you bought but from the pics it looks like the 1uzrfe-10 which is a non vvt motor so you dont have all that additional hassle to worry about.

nice when guys hate it even though they havent bothered to fit it and run it on a daily basis to warrant their judgement... sounds typical!

your economy meter will not work any longer but it can be tuned to show your current tps position which is pretty cool.

you will also be better off with a manual setup... the auto is bloody heavy - 85kg and it also uses free running clutches in 1st and 2nd which is a complete pain when you wanna have a little fun.

@ rhett - well said bro! its easy to spend other peoples money... maybe mommy and daddy have deap pockets...kekeke

Rezlo Auto Works has a fair bit of experience with these conversions and they recommend going with higher end AFMs

Hi again, I started the engine today for the first time after waiting 6 weeks for a modified sump. Started up first time, and sounds great. Now it's only the exhaust system and propshaft that needs to be done.

When aI first read this post my knee jerk reaction was to say nooo! But then I was reminded of my experience with engine swap and how changing brands saved my day.

A few years ago I was running a little factory. I used my transport budget to buy three Isuzu 2800 TD Bakkies. Wel to cut a long story short as each one past its warrantee marker the engine packed in. I had to hoof out R30,000 to that agent (And only a 3 month warrantee was offered on the replacement engine) back then that was money we could not afford to loose to replace the engine in a 1yr old bakkie. :argh::cry:
After doing the first one one of their mechanics whispered in my ear that it was a design floor and that this was happening to all of them.
So when the other two went we stuck brand new toyota engines in for R15,000 a piece and they ran for another five years without any hassles. Needless to say the replacement Isuzu engine went after a year too but by then it was toyota time:thumbs:
So I guess you gotta do what you must when such a solutions suites the problem, I too will be interested in the outcome, that V8 engine does sound rather mean.

Wow, thanks for the positive responses (so far). I also took this decision purely based on the money issue. If ever I need to replace the engine, R 5 500.00 later I will have the car going again. I would have loved to rather use a 3 liter BMW engine, but it is far above what I can afford. So, I settled for second best...... but I think I will be happy with the result.

Does anyone know of a specialist exhaust shop in the Northern Cape? With the engine fiited I now need to have custom branches buit. The steering rack is a bit in the way, so someone who knows their stuff will have to design a very narrow set of branches to be able to get it past the steering shaft. I really don't want to tow the vehicle to Pretoria or Johburg to have it done.

Please tell me you are going to use the original lexus ECU to run the motor properly and not some shitronics management to run the engine very poorly...

If you do go shitronics/spitronics you will never see better than 9-10km/lt consumption...

:=):What's wrong Gizmo? Have you had a bad experience with this system?

I'm running in Spitronics in my Corsa Ute. Haven't had a single issue since I did the conversion. Starts 1st time, everytime. And it's making good, reliable power. I've done 12000kms so far.

On the highway at a steady 120km/h I average 7.8l/100kms, and in town I average about 11.5l/100kms.

I would recommend the system, over any other locally developed system, especially if the car is a daily driver. This is purely because it offers functionality such as sequential injector firing, and also uses the lambda sensors to measure the air/fuel ratios etc.

But I also agree with what others have said, it depends on the tuner. There are some cowboys out there, and then there are the ones you can trust.
