Insurance will go to the ends of the world to not pay a claim and yet when they want you on board they will call you even when you are in the shower just to get your business.

Sad...

It's the ultimate business to be in. Have millions of people pay you thousands each month and never have to pay anything out.

Such a misinformed view of insurance in general.

It's not a misinformed view "in general" if the majority of the public have the same view. Surely you see more negative comments about insurers than positive?

Besides, I am simply making a statement that echoes the thoughts of many. I am lucky that my brokers and underwriters do not give me hassle like this. As far as my opinion goes, I have the best broker under the sun. And I refer people to him on a regular basis.

:dunnoanymore: Funny enough I have never had any problems with claims - in fact they have gone out of their way to resolve all my claims and my premiums have never gone up for that reason.

We forget to note how there are so many falsified claims and lairs that try screw the Insurance companies over - this is why we have landed in this situation and why the premiums go up due to dishonest people amongst us.

Exactly the point I was trying to make. This is why I personally have no difficulty with insurers investigating claims thoroughly.

I am dealing with one at the moment which I can't talk about yet. Suffice to say the quantum is several million rand and the dots just do not connect. But I'm a cynical old twat so quite often dots don't connect :roflol:

Falsified statements around a crash is one thing. However, the issue is that there are folks who declare what they have added to their car and those who do not, in the specific case of guys showing off what they have on the forum or facebook etc. this means insurers can use this to show there was additional risk not covered and deny claims (when your 230 fly wheel kilowatt car is making 350 on the wheels for instance...) With events (and trust me on this) if you are insured for untimed events and some twat posts something on social which they find then you end up with a big headache...

The insurers and motorplan for that matter are all over social, know what events are happening, are able to physically go out and interview people if the claim is high enough, get footage from various sources you may not even have considered etc. One of the old well-known Subaru tuners is now employed by an insurance company to assess certain claims... that should say alot.

I am with Sela brokers and I have had them recover excess from third parties and never had major bumps in premiums... They worked in my interests whenever needed. HOWEVER speak to people insured with a telesurer (Dial Direct, MiWay, Outsurance etc) and that is where you hear horror stories.

Yes they are not an NGO but there is no denying that insurance will do all within its power to not payout.

1. Car gets stolen in full view of cameras at a restaurant in Krugersdorp. There is video footage of the criminals breaking into the car and taking it. Took 4 months to pay out and not even the full amount after they had called everyone involved including the restaurant owner and all the waiters and even interviewed the security guards outside while threatening to have them deported because they were illegals.

2. Neighbors car catches fire spontaneously while parked in the middle of the night in our estate with cameras as well. There is no evidence of tampering or mods on the vehicle and his insurance takes over 5 months to pay out after investigating his service history, his driving history for his tracking company and interviewing us as if we saw anything.

3. Buddy has a dash cam mounted in his car. Gets rear ended at an intersection and insurances response after the investigation is he was over the pedestrian line. If he was behind it then when he got hit from behind he would not have hit the passing cars.

4. Uncle leaves the country for a bit on business and his disc expires while he is away. Part of the parking structure falls due to wind and smashes the windshield and dents the roof. He gets someone to do the claim on his behalf to his insurance who are still debting his account every month and they decline the claim because the disc was expired 3 months earlier. :dunnoanymore:

I am sure there are more examples out there of when people have been fvcked by insurance.

These are cases for the ombudsman IMHO - painful but if they are denying claims in these circumstances then they need to be taken to task.
