:excited:

It was in the early 90's and my uncle was a duk BMW kop. So him and his mates took a E30 shell and decided to drop the engine from the beast of all beemers back then - the 535i !! :hammerhead:

This coupled with some 325iS parts, painted the famous BMW Dakar Yellow (or something similar as i don't even think there was Dakar yellow at the time). And the end result was this

That looks great

There is a guy in Langebaan that's doing the same. He might actually be finished with it, but I haven't heard from him in some time. I'll direct him to this site if I can get hold of him.

This car was POWERFUL!!! I cant really explain, but maybe this will help - in order to make a doughnut all you needed was space as large as the length of the car :dropjaw:

Looks good man. Must have been quite terrifying to drive though with no traction control...:dropjaw:

Those were the days. Dakar Yellow was known around 92-93. Reason why I know cos I started selling cars and another car dealer who I ended up working for had a Dakar yellow 325i.

I was hooked on the colour since then!!

Nice pics!!!

Let me climb back into the far reaches of my ageing brain...:hammerhead:

If I remember correctly there were rumours that BMW SA had two SA only E30's:
Well known SA only E30:
333i which was essentially a E28 535i motor in a E30 body...very cool had the choice of aircon Or power steering

Rumour mill E30:
335i which was a E28 M5 motor in an E30 body. The rumour was that 10 of these were built as a special assignment and they were sold as once off's to "special clients". They were clad with a Evo II body kit and were seriously low to the ground. The rumour went on to say that most were written off in the early days as they were a real handful to control.

Thats it... brain empty:)

325iS was also SA only car AFAIK

333i was definitely a SA only E30. It was homologated for Group N racing and was only sold in limited quantities in SA just to get homologation status.

325iS Evo and Evo II were sold in the UK in large numbers.

I freaken love the DAKAR YELLOW colour still!! Yeah yeah yeah, im a solid KULARD hehe and proud :)

Traction control is already a bitch on a standard 535i , so on this car it was even more hectic to handle!! But my uncle could i promise you that!

Old Beemers are still the shiz - even today i'd still want a clean 535i !

I had a 333i and it was apparently not the 3.5litre motor, but rather the 3.3 litre motor from the 733i, which was shoe-horned into the E30's nose. The management was a little uprated to go with the shorter ratios of the E30 gearbox, which translated in a claimed output of around 135kW and 288Nm @ 4300Rpm. Mine was a little bit tweaked and I recorded figures of closer to 200kW at 5600Rpm. With a kerb weight of less than 1300KG, this thing was a real b1tch when pulling away fast...would light those 16" rears up like a candle!!!

Just checked and we are both correct..:) the motor used was a M30 straight six. The internals defining the displacement. The 333 motor displaced 3210cc as apposed to 3420cc of the 535i... that will teach me to post from memory :)
