Yes, a hand-held 1000-watt laser that blasts away rust, paint, and any other coating, revealing bare metal in seconds.

This amazing device is called the P-Laser QF-1000. It is meant for industrial applications, like preparing metal for robotic welding or removing residue from manufacturing moulds. Want one? It's very, very expensive: A low-power QF-50, with only 50 watts of muscle, costs 47,800 Euros. That's way outside my tool budget.

The system uses short pulses of laser light. When aimed at a metal surface, "the dirt layer and any oxides underneath will absorb the energy and evaporate." The metal underneath will not absorb the laser energy, leaving a clean surface ready for welding or painting.

I know what you're thinking, and the answer is no: it won't vaporize human flesh. Aiming this laser blaster at your finger doesn't even hurt at all.

Interested in getting one? Check out the manufacturer's website:

Etches(cuts) away the rust, liquids evaporate.

I think he meant it 'evaporates' in the figurative sense.

In the same way money 'evaporates' if you own certain BMW models. ~)

We have invested in a laser welder that also does laser cleaning, although the cleaning area is smaller than a dedicated cleaner
Arrived last week. The X3M will have to wait as this is a large investment back into our company

What do you use the laser welder for? We use one in our company almost every day for injection mould repairs. Also not a cheap toy...

Mainly used for fabrication. Thin sheet metal without warping, rework is minimal. We also use the laser for cladding (rebuild shafts and bearing housings). I am very familiar with laser mould repairs, we work with Alpha Laser in this case.
