G42 M240 vs F82 M4

Guys...with the G8x prices being out of reach for many..the G42 remains an intriguing prospect.

2023s are going for 1 bar..with over 3 years of plan available..mileage under 10k. 2019 F82 Comps are similarly priced..going into their last period of warranty under BMW.

How good is the m240 and how does it compare to the ever mean.. daily driver F82?

Is the M240 a capable replacement for the F82 owner or is this space reserved for the ultra priced G82.. which is it?

I'd personally not buy an G42 coming from an F82. From my F82 I ended up with an X3M. Logical progression from S55 can only really be replaced by an S58 engined car.
Issue is income isn't keeping up with "car inflation" so someone that could afford a new F82 in 2019 now has to pay almost 50% more for the 2024 LCI G82.
And then even though technically it's a much better car than the F82, it's still the "same car", being an M4. I mean this is context of you would think that paying 50% more is moving you on up to the next level but most are scraping together just to keep the evolution of the car they could buy new 5 years ago, whether this was the 2019 Golf GTI to 2024 Golf GTI or from the F82 to G82.

What about the G87 M2. For me, that is more of a spiritual successor to the previous M3/M4 lineage, as the new 4 has grown a bit too much - including in price...

However, as a daily driver, I would think the G42 M240i with the B58 option might be better overall. Had a F82 M4 (S55) and Supra (B58) - at the limits the S55 is amazing, but overall "pottering" around, the B58 felt like a nicer/smoother engine, which is not lacking any grunt as a daily driver.

Have not yet come to terms with the G87 design tbh. Does not look special enough..the wacky front and mediocre lines on the sides make it a step down in comparison to the F8x aesthetic and sheer presence it exudes. For R1.4m 2nd hand..one must atleast consider it with the S58 motor and 338kw 550nm torque figures. Those are near CS numbers.

Again 1.4m buys you a low mileage under 40km..2019/2020 F90 pre facelift..

The B58 x drive is said to be a better overall daily drive..a robot to robot winner..but lacks the overall drivers car feel that the S55 has going for it..the S55 powers into corners and is violence personified when you want it to be.

If the G42 feels like a step down..and is more tame..then maybe its not the car to compare or use as a viable financial sensical successor.....
