Hi Guys
The SO has been itching for something newer to replace the X1 20d for a while now.. The search has been ongoing for a while now, and she was undecided on so many occasions that i ended up not searching for a while.. I simply put out alerts on various sides..
At first she wanted the Evoque, and it took some time to convince her otherwise.. I literally had to show the negative online reviews, especially outside motorplan.. the boot and cabin space isn't that great.
Then in 2020, the search became wider and we test drove the following:-
1. X4 F26 20d- it was a whole lot better car coming from the E series.. I felt it didn't enough power to pull the weight (I daily a 330d)
2. X4 F26 30d - one of my favourites, packed a punch and pulled strong.. (She said it's dated and she wants a newer car)
3. X6 F16 40d - 2nd best on this list, had all that is required for a family wagon, space, power and efficiency (she said it's too bulky for her to daily
)
4. Cayenne 3litre diesel - This was a solid drive, but then being dated came up again after the new coupe version (outside budget) was released

5. Macan 3litre diesel - My number 1 on the list, really enjoyed driving this nippy little thing, agressive and packs a punch.. playing around with sport mode gave me joy.. pricing was relatively great for 5 year old car..
6. GLC coupe 350d - great car, but the gearbox isn't impressive compared to ZF.. like for like, they were always a 100k pricier than X4!
7. GLE coupe 350d - same as GLC, but bigger.. great car, but doesn't come close to 40d X6.
We eventually settled for a Flamengo red G02 X4 Xdrive 20d with 3000k km on the clock at the time of delivery in November. Recently took it to Kruger National Park, I was impressed with boot space, managed to fit a stroller, and luggage for a family of 4 with ease.. The consumption is sitting on 7.2l/100 which is the same as on my 330d e90. I must say it's quite comfortable and well refined, I wasn't as tired as I would normally be driving similar distance on a sport suspension of either my E92 or E90.. I won't lie i missed the power and fun, especially driving on the curvy Sabie routes. But it is fit for purpose, the SO is happy with it, especially the colour and the interior for her, and she could not be bothered by the power/weight ratio.. Deep down i wish it were the M40d..
