So after a period of unsuccessful online searches ... I posted a request on this board for references for a pre-LCI F82 for sale.
Forum member momo - reached out, and mentioned that he was considering a sale late in 2023.

We concluded the deal in early Nov.

Since taking ownership, have removed the existing half bonnet and bumper PPF, as well as the yellowing rear fenders.
Replaced with full bumper, bonnet, A pillar and rear fenders. Detail and ceramic coat.

Early in Jan, decided to do the GTS DCT flash through Bimmer Remote.
Found this to smooth out regular start / stop driving in Efficiency, with slightly faster shifts in SP and SP+
Definitely a worthy mod, but found dealing with the vendor, completely unprofessional, and just downright rude - Would not recommend - wish I had seen the local vendors offering this earlier.

Also decided that wireless Android Auto, would be a nice to have, and seen this deal pop up on my social media feeds.
After some research, into the specifics unit specs, decided to pull the trigger - not really knowing what to expect.
Also decided after some Youtube tutelage to do a DIY install

Started on a Friday afternoon - and after much cursing, questioning my decisions, sanity etc. ... buttoned everything back up on Sunday at 9pm

Some thoughts on the 10.25 inch Android display

  • Size wise, because it is considerably larger than the original, it seemed a bit odd at first - however after installing it a while ago - it seems like it should have been this way from factory, just feels right by modern standards
  • Integration with I drive / steering wheel controls and regular NBT functions appears seamless. When using the standard functionality everything functions as it should
  • The touch screen is only operational when accessing the units UI
  • The wireless AndroidAuto functions well, but when switching between NBT and the UI, there is a slight delay ( 2 seconds ) until you can interact with the UI or scroll with the I drive controller
  • The sound though is a bit of a strange one - All sound that is played through the unit requires to play through the Aux port - I did see some users online, would not get sound, until you plug an Aux cable in ... For me though, sound plays through the Aux setting, but without the need for a cable.
  • The screen is not clearly visible with polarised sunglasses

Loved this car!

curious to know, Was the new built in integrated screen a better option than the MMI Prime?

To be honest I didnt explore the MMI Prime in much detail ... As far as features go, both seem the same, but I always had the idea to DIY the installation. MMI appears to require a bit more trim removal - And the phobia of breaking clips and introducing rattles is a real concern for me:)

So I have a bit of a confession ... I am not and have not been the biggest fan of the 666M
Always felt that the shape of the F82 lends itself to a nice concave wheel.
So I started evaluating a few options - Had to be a 20 so as to use existing tyres, and preferably something OEM

Found a set of Style 87 - X5 4.6 is - Had them customised subtly, with a sparkling silver face, and gloss back barrels.WhatsApp Image 2024-04-18 at 15.56.24.jpeg

Rims a .5 J wider on both fronts and rears compared to the 666M's - Need to run a 15 mm spacer up front, but couldnt find the right size extended wheel bolts
So landed up looking like this

Really happy with the rear fitment, and the more muscular look

listen to your kids
Lol - Yeah, will give the Style 87 a bit or runtime - waiting to see how the complete set looks and feels - As mentioned, the fitment is to my liking, but somehow it doesnt quite look exactly as I envisioned - Will have a better idea once the fronts are on

The car is coming along nicely, the Style 87 somehow breaks the dating of the car's looks. I would imagine a different colour could do it justice, the silver is just too "plain" to bring it in. 666M is gorgeous...

Congrats! Stunning car.

Keep the 666M. The style 87 definitely dates the car. Maybe look for another period correct wheel like the CS wheels.
