F25 X3 sound upgrade

Hi all,

So for a long time now, I've been pondering on a sound upgrade for the X3. The current sound setup is a bit flat and underwhelming.

I'm not looking for a pavement pounder, just want it a little bit better. The Alpine Hi-Fi upgrade kit in my 1-series is great, so that's what I'm aiming for.

Also, budget is limited, and I would like to DIY if possible.

So, my options are:

1) purchase another Alpine hifi upgrade kit, and retrofit it to the X3 (harnesses should be plug-and-play, but I may need to code the radio.

2) purchase MTX replacement speakers locally, and then also look for a small amp. The wiring would all be custom though (not plug-and-play), and I'm not sure how I feel about splicing into wiring harnesses everywhere.

Any thoughts / suggestions from the sound gurus?

howsit man, I have the mtx kit installed, personally i think it offers a great "almost oem" experience...you will only have to splice into the oem harness at the back of the radio to feed your LOC, Im assuming you have base sound.

I did not have to do any coding of the radio, you just need a decent amplifier (im using a jbl gtx-a604) if you do decide to go with the mtx kit, i suggest getting an amp that has a variable high pass filter on the front channel (i didnt know this when i got the jbl).

In terms of SQ, the kit provides clear highs and nice deep lows - it sounds better than hifi sound for sure, and has the bass from logic 7 (but not the detailed sound which is expected as that system has alot more speakers).

Overall, im quite happy with the upgrade and can recommend it to those on a budget

I had to laugh - I just posted a similar post enquiring on an upgrade on a G01 X3. After reading the reply here it remains gibberish to me. Splicing, coding, harnesses........ As kids we dug a hole out of the back shelf and dropped a speaker in - Done! :)
