E90 Spare Key

Someone please enlighten me on the options to get an E90 spare key, apart from the dealer. I've heard that you can get a "generic" one and have it programmed for the car and that the actual "metal key part" can be cut at any locksmith.

Advise and input please.

On second hand ones you need the FOB module or if you are a DIY guy you need the EPROM and a blank for cutting the door lock key

Got one or two second hand ones here if you need
PM for more info

Thanks, but I would prefer everything done at the same place, so that it's easier. Also don't have the EEPROM.

BTW, I've got 2 quotes for R1.5k and R1.7k to have the key cut and reprogrammed - is this reasonable?

Philip try BMW, THEN you know what to call a rip off.

Dude, Go through a dealer, as its original parts and you know there isnt a copy made by those guys that will cut and code it for you. I got a spare key now the other day for 3k and that included coding and cutting. Rather do the dealership.

This is a really old thread but I'm taking a chance,

Could I get a blank unprogrammed key for the e82 which I traded in a few months ago and couldn't find my key?

Then tonight, had a freak event where I dropped my F21 key and the top half came out (with the metal key) and I can't find it anywhere at the garage forecourt where I was when it happened. The key still works for driving the car as its keyless but I would like to have it sorted,

Would really appreciate some advice
